Quick question about Pre-sterilized rye grain.

Hello shroomery, I have purchased a 3LB bag of Pre-sterilized rye from a trusted seller. I plan on inoculating the bag with a spore syringe. Would 2cc be enough so I don’t add in too much water and make it too watery? Thanks 😊

2CC of spore solution will contain plenty of spores, as well as potentially undesirable mold and bacteria. Spores to grain are a high fail method.

I hesitate to answer because spores to grain is not a good method at all. If you insist, 1cc for 3lb is plenty. If you only have 1 bag you might want to order a few more becuase i dont think you'll have a lot of success. People have been lucky however.

Oh okay I see, I unfortunately don’t have a pressure cooker but I saw this tek on making liquid culture https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5238137
Would you recommend me to make my spore syringe to LC then inoculate my bag?

LC not recommended if you aren`t experienced with. It`s even a lucky shot with syringe. Good luck!

Why is it no recommended, the tek seems pretty simple to follow :p. And yeah unfortunately I know it’s a gamble, but I’ll use a still still box and use maximum precautions when inoculating

Try it and see yourself. People always test their LC on agar. You don`t seem to be into agar? No offense, you only learn with doing. Just ask a trusted cultivator if you don`t believe

What we're driving at is the established procedure to get a clean culture for expansion on sterilized grain is agar work. It's easy and simple and doesn't 100% need a pressure cooker but benefits from it.
If all you want is to grow enough to trip, BRF is your answer. Grain really requires a clean culture first, not spores.

spores are a gamble as it is. now if you go shooting dirty ass spores into a bag of premade anything you have an extremely high chance of failure before you even finish unboxing all of your shit. its almost a promise it will be a waste of time and most importantly your $$. the very vast majority of failures occur just based on this equation alone. it is best to do things yourself. it really is the only way to be sure every step was taken and everything is correct. i cant trust the nit wit at the burger joint down the rd to get a cheese burger with only ketchup correct so why should this be any different?? then go ahead and add in the factor that even if it wasnt made by some slob that who 2 min before was shooting smack out back behind the dumpster and nodded out and fell into a puddle of piss and shit and then went back in and proceeded to make ur order. even if that didnt happen its still gnna just ride around in the back of a bunch of hot ass mail trucks and shit for a week before it gets to ur door. now i just dont like those kind of odds or even the thought of not knowing who and how my shit was made. there is few things that are as annoying as getting a month into a project and having to just throw it in the trash and start over just cuz you didnt care to or were just to lazy to do it correct in the first place. so for that simple reason alone i choose to remove those terrible odds right from the get go.
but for something that is so easy to grow it sure is even easier to fuck up. but if you can read and follow directions and take a lil time and put forth a lil effort there is no reason that you cant do everything yourself at a better quality and a fraction of the cost. but sadly even ppl who have failed once cuz of this will turn right back around and buy more and do it again🤦🏻♂️ this happens all the time. its the same thing with those damn grow kits ppl buy. if you wanna "add water and watch it grow" buy a chia pet or some sea horses or somethin cuz you will at least have a chance at getting the results you paid for.
that said but if you insist on buying everything and shooting spores into it like that. just dont wonder why its contammed or not doing anything or any other issues that seem to come up cuz i tried to save ya😃 but if ur gnna buy everything else u may as well buy agar too and at least try to obtain a clean culture from the start it surely would help your chances thats for sure.

I would suggest starting with BRF cakes to get the idea of the process down, make spore prints of a few when they grow, take those spores to agar. Just to start
My first grow was BRF to bulk and it turned out well but even spores to BRF can be a crapshoot. I just got lucky and BRF is more resistant to contams than grains are.

What’s the difference between BRF vs PF tek, I mean I might aswell try it. I currently got my spore syringe and Verm. Just need rice flower. I don’t have a PC but I’ve seen people boil them is that true?
