This is pretty huge. Not what they needed just following the abuse scandal outbreak. 44 days till handover? really?

I had predicted this very thing (assassinations of the governing council) to a friend yesterday morning. (As I have publicly predicted an Iraqi civil war.)

Here's the deal: who chooses the Interim Government? Well, naturally the US and her allies in cohorts with Iraqi big business and those who will play ball with the US. Naturally, certain groups will feel left out and under-represented; others will not like the choices of this temporary puppet government and all hell will break loose.

This is fairly easy to "see".

Viet Nam II now playing in Iraq.

Can't see anyone missing the guy. The second the Americans leave all of the "Iraqi Governing Council" are gonna be toast anyway. Unless they've managed to create a savage enough police state to keep them in power by then.

It's not like we're leaving the moment we transfer power - we'll have a military presense there for a while, I'd guess.

Yes, we need to be there long enough for the puppet government to learn how to rig the "real election" and then we will be right back where we started before Saddam minus $300,000,000,000, international credibility and a thousand plus US soldiers.

Good plan. I can see why so many people back Bush.

Well, I guess that despite the so called "power transfer" on June 30, nothing will actually change in Iraq right away.

Despite the activities of the resistance, everything depends on the will of the USA. Until after the november elections Bush won't change anything drastically.

Proof of telepathy! I believe you owe yourself a large sum of money.

(Note: precognition, not telepathy, is what you are referring to.)

Gee, how I will I spend it all?

Bush knew.

--------------------
You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

Well, it worked pretty well for Germany and Japan post-WWII. Not saying I agree with Bush's timing and diplomacy (ESPECIALLY the diplomacy) but occupation forcing democracy and industrialization isnt unheard of.
