Why use a liner in a monotub when you can just paint the bottom half black?

Just curious if there is a particular reason you would opt for using a black liner over say spray painting the bottom half of your clear monotub black??
I searched for discussion on this and found nothing discussing the pros and cons of each. I happened upon a cult video made by North Spore where instead of using liners on their monotubs they simply spray painted the bottom third of the monotub to prevent side pins .
I'm kinda surprised I haven't seen this as a suggestion in any of the grow guides I've seen on here. Is there any particular reason you wouldn't want to do this? I ask because I personally find making liners to be a bit of a pain in the ass and if I can avoid the hassle I will?

I'm guess most people use liners for ease of substrate removal when picking and for easy cleanup. Couldn't do that with paint Neither one will prevent side pinning all together.

Spraying is bullshit as it doesn't do anything against sidepins. Your substrate shrinks, with a liner stuck to it you don't get microclimate for sidepins, so a liner is always a good choice. Mixing up your tub well and tamping down the sides also prevents them. Not to mention fast removal for harvest and cleanup.

You want the liner to shrink with the sub, that is whats actually helping minimize sidpins.
Even if painting did help, I'd still use a liner. Being able to lift the entire sub out to harvest is invaluable. I shudder thinking about when I'd harvest without 🤣

My experience has been:
No liner, i get side pins. Thick black trashbag liner, zero side pins. Thin white trashbag, some side pins.
So, it's either that the thin white liner is letting in light, or more likely its the thinner plastic allowing hyphal knots to create a gap between sub and liner.
I really don't think light is a factor, but id have to test a black thin trash bag to be sure.

This should make making liners easier.
