Can't find weilii for shit but apparently I'm a Gym magnet. First time finding them on a stump and not on mulch. I ate eight fresh, good-sized caps a couple days ago without one iota of a trip. The plus side is that they're not as bitter as everyone seems to say.

If you really want to find them get outside early and stay out there all day. Pack a lunch and bring water. I walked for 5 hours yesterday before I found the patch in the pictures I just posted. It also doesn't hurt to use google maps satellite view to plan out the spots you want to hit.

Honestly, I don’t know. Today was a trip on the wild side. I’m sure it’s a combination of perfect conditions and the Weilii calling to me. I’ll say this about searching grasses though...
Slow down, especially when you feel the tug Get low, not peeling back layers of grass, but changing perspective Search the first 4-8” of edges and small clearings Ferns, moss, and blackberry bushes are a plus Bring an instrument of some sort to push around grasses Learn indicator species, (posted by docG) in the threads
Finds today were in a spot I felt was special when I first saw it over a year ago.

Walking all day's not a problem. I did it all this spring in conjunction with shed hunting, stopped during the heat of summer, and put in at least 5 hours a day since Sunday of this week (I was working out of town until then).
I think the thing with me is the lack of knowledge on what they actually look like in the field, damn near everything looks weilii-ish. I'm trying to go by if they bruise blue or not and so far known of the imposters have bruised blue.
When you're google mapping are you looking for sewer cuts, power lines, and the like? Most of the time I have an idea on where I want to check out and then just start driving and pulling over, then walking.
It'll come one day, just got to keep putting in the work.

Sometimes shit just clicks. I've had days shed hunting where I could do no wrong and matched up damn near every buck or bull I was looking for.
Good tips on all of it, I also make time to stop and turn around for a different view.
I've got to look up the indicator species. I'm finding damn near everything but weilii so it will be interesting to see if I'm even in the right area.
Thanks for the advice.

I believe a recent place with grading 2yrs+ is key! I am sure you get them in places that haven’t been dug up in 15-20yrs, but you will greatly increase chances where there has been moved earth, or even landslides/ muddy inclines.

Agreed, all my spots from like 5-7 years ago no longer produce, grasses have filled in the mud spots and the lawn spots just stopped. my most recent finds are all landslide situation. I prefer the finds in the forest over finding them in my neighbors yard...lol. i still haven't found them in like a pure pine forest like this guy (northgahunt?) his pics were the coolest) used to post years ago, my new goal is just finding them in different environs.

Historic?
C’mon now it’s been good but the watershed where I’m at is still way down... Still crossing sewer pipes that usually underwater. But I can say central and east look much much wetter than the west side..
No known patches fruitin... unless y’all be snipin em

First post ever, looks like I have about 70 pages of reading to catch up on.
I walk/hike semi-often at Gold Branch, Sope Creek, 'Hooch Rec Area, etc... all trails around e cobb, r-well, retta, etc. around the hooch basically. If anyone's having any interesting finds in those areas, would love some tips on what/when/where. Won't be taking any chances on any finds for quite a while as I'm very new and don't want to get sick, but will post any interesting finds here so you guys can help me hone my skills. Looking fwd to frequenting this thread from now on, cheers to all.

You can quibble with my words if you want but I talked to two agronomists who said the amount of precip we’ve received over the last 45 days is historic. Just because it isn’t enough to bring the water table all the way back up is a different argument

I agree, the consistent day in day out precip is so uncommon for this time of year.
I checked my one spot I know gets frequented by others, and took a chance. I left some big clusters of pins AKA future knuckles. They were to pretty too pull and I'll take the chance someone else gets them for the small chance I get them.

I've seen them fruiting from wood several times now. How feasible would it be to find them popping out a decomposed log? I figure it's unlikely... but impossible??
