Ah nice one, very detailed info that I'll defos use as websites don't mention that much detail. Also anything above 18C won't make libs grow?

went for a walk to scout for some fertile ground today and found what i think are Panaeolus foenisecii and either conocybe velutipes or conocybe tenera, hopefully the former. seems most likely to be conocybe tenera though. still need to confirm that.

Conditions have been ideal in East Cumbria. Going to take a look around the fields today. Wish me luck!

Nothing to note in west Yorkshire (suburban spots) as of yet, but heading up for s few days camping on the Cumbria coast from Monday, so hopefully I may find a few on our walks.
Will report back when I have raided nipplehats spots. Ha ha ha just kidding man. (About your spots that is, not the camping.)

First hunt didn't go as planned...only managed to find one! Saw a couple lookalikes which gave me hope but it started raining pretty heavily after 30 mins so I stopped there. I didn't realise how small they are, having only seen them in pictures, I was expecting them to be twice the size! You really gotta get down on your hands and knees I guess..I was not dressed for that kind of hunt D :

ha ha, im staying in haverigg, dont think we will be venturing much further than a couple of miles either direction, your spots should be safe!
If I do happen to find any decent spots while I'm there, i will pm you the locations dude. Not much use me keeping it a secret when I probably won't be back up that way for a few years.
Don't give up on the hunt dude! Where there is one you will find more, once you get your eye in, you will be able to spot them from 20 meters away. Dont neglect long grass clumps either.

Thank you for the kind gesture Herbie! As soon as I saw how small they were I looked for a poop-free space to get down so I could sift through the grass around it, which is when I found a lookalike. So a self-pat on the back for getting the location and conditions right! I would have stayed longer if not for the heavy rain :/ I'll have another look tomorrow!

Yeah get back out there man, its hopefully gonna be a bumper season with how the last few weeks have been. Dont give up though, keep returning to spots that look good, even if you haven't found any there yet, it may just produce better late season.
They are easier to spot when the sun/wind has dried the caps a bit, they go from an olive green/khaki colour to a bright sandy,/cream. Stand out a mile in the grass then.

Popped out today to a bumper spot from last year. Plenty of similar species, no libs. A combination of heavy rain and several angry looking bulls drew my hunt to an abrupt end. I suspect my location (~54) isn't quite cool enough for a proper flush, however I shall be super active regardless.

Directly around the castle? No animals around there. The area to the right of the bridge nearby has animals though, definitely worth considering. Unless being a floodplain prevents growth, I haven't heard anything about that before though. And yeah, their darkened hats in the rain make them much harder to spot..I was expecting to come home with 10+ today!

Some of my best picking spots over the last 20 have had no animals or fertiliser... think cricket pitches, village greens, playing fields and park land. Golf courses have always been productive too.
Liberty caps don't actually grow from animal dung, they live, grow and feed on the decaying grass matter/roots of established grassland. The animal waste in livestock pastures help keep the grass healthy, which in turn does encourage libs to grow, but feces is not vital for libs. Just good honest grass.
So yeah, I'd definitely have a mooch around the castle grounds at some point.
I have found these kind of places to be massively overlooked in recent years, and as the grass is nearly always well mowed, the tiny libs are easier to spot than in the long grass. Keep your options open and check any green and fertile grass land.

No problemo brother, new lawns are not so much worth it, but established 30+ year old grassland is always worth a look.
I've even seen them growing in the communal lawn of a block of council flats, in Wakefield City center about 15 years ago. Unfortunately the council built a new shopping center on the land a few years back.
You would honestly be surprised where the little blighters will pop up. Now dont even get me started on the random places I have found cyans....
