agar not becoming solid

I'm using the same recipe I always have and it won't solidify for some reason. I always let them go solid before I pc them and I dont know whats going on.
I do 3.5g potato flakes, 2 grams agar, a splash of karo, and a half cup of water.
Can anyone help? Its possible i switched the numbers on the potato and agar on accident when making my notes.

Did you boil the agar? Perhaps it didn't mix with the water.

As soon as it comes to a boil i kill the heat and add the splash of karo. Maybe I should just let it hang out in the water a bit before heating?

I would try mixing it up quite a bit to let everything dissolve before even turning the heat on, then slow heating it maybe? I generally think that slowly heating it to a boil gives it a better chance to thicken up. You should really buy some MEA, My first plates I did potato and the visibility was poo. MEA turned out crystal clear and it's not that expensive.

I will try to really mix it up and slow heat it thanks. I do want to try MEA some day but for now I'm sticking with the things I can locally source. Seriously thanks for the replies guys.
Edit: yeah i just wasnt mixing everything up as well as i should have while i was heating my ingredients in the pot.
