Questions on stacking varieties and long term storage methodology
    #26901438 - 08/26/20 10:57 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Sorry if these are stupid questions.
I would like to double check just to relax because I'm aiming for long long term (3+ years if possible) and trying to do everything the best I can.

I'm growing at the moment 5 varieties of psilocybe cubensis and almost reaching harvest with some of them, and I wanted to know if you guys stack all the dried mushrooms in the same jar/bag.

On the first hand,I was planning to use different jars for each variety in hope that each one could bring a different trip quality, but don't know if it's worth it. I know the famous "a cube is a cube" phrase, but do this applies to tripping too? Do you believe/experience different states/highs on different psilocybe varieties? Or should I stack them all together?

And the other question is, I've noticed that dried mushrooms on mason jars can take a lot of space if stored as they were harvested. They can really take a lot of unnecessary space. So I thought cutting them in fine pieces while aesthetically preserving somewhat it's mushroom form before dehydrating them (I know they can be grinded after dehydrating, but don't like the idea of powdering them).
So, to summarize the idea would be to chop in fine pieces, dehydrate at 175 for 20hours, then pile them as small pieces in mason jars with desiccant, pull the air out with a straw (trapping the air with saran wrap on the neck of the jar), and then wrap the whole jar with Saran wrap before throwing them at the back of the closet . What do you guys think of it?

I'd keep them separate just in case you discover that they are different, 'cause you can always mix them later.

If I had a lot of dried shrooms I wanted to keep for a long time I'd get a bunch of empty paint cans at a hardware store and some dry ice, then I'd put dry ice in the can and pack it with shrooms with the lid on loose, wait a while for the frozen CO2 to melt and displace any oxygen.  Pound the lids on and disguise them as paint or whatever, store them that way.

Is there any foolproof step by step Tek of that?

I just used galling ziplocks with food safe desiccant packets for mine and they lasted a good long time. I also did jars but I ran out of jars and BOD told me bags are just as good with packets in there. I always separate my varieties too and sometimes even the same variety but different batch just to test which is more potent.

That paint can idea is awesome though! Would help keep them more discreet.

Ohhhh, that's a good idea too!
But I've already tried the Ziploc baggies method. And here in my country these bags are not 100% airtight, within 2 days you can see it inflated:mad:. And here they don't sell the heavy duty freezer type bags.

That’s strange you don’t have proper bags there... I’m sure you can get them online if you really wanted to go that route. You probably want to order food safe desiccant packets anyway to keep them dry. So maybe you can order bags and packets at the same time. Also you can do the sealer bags that keep them air tight. It’s a little more spendy though but your mushrooms would stay good for a long time.

No.  But it's pretty simple.    I make tea from fresh and freeze that so storage is really never much of an issue.
