Maybe a date of when they were tagged would help. Although it really depends on how active they’ve been too. Whatever it’s reliable enough to do the job.

Especially like you said back in the day shit was different. A lot of the old threads I come across are insane and it still blows my mind how new mushroom cult is.

I remember wanting to grow in like 2002 and it was way too complicated. Plus back then a lot of people seemed to think stuff like pans were impossible to do indoors.

My neighbor has chickens and she let me have a glass tank of hers that she was using. It’s huge and would probably cost a lot of money brand new but I had to clean it out and it was full of chicken shit and shavings and 6” of standing water it smelled like a sewage leak and I ate a gram of cubes an hour and a half ago lol

Anyone ever had issues with water on the agar surface? When I was using my SAB I would leave my plates in the SAB for like a day to let the dry a bit. Helped with condensation.

I'm using my FH now and I'm getting a small amount of water on my agar surface. I pour around 120-123 °F and I wrap my plates with roughly 4 layers of cling wrap after letting them cool for an hour or more. Idk what is causing it. Most of the time the agar will soak it back up, but I've had some plates sitting for a couple weeks that still have a little moisture left.

It's not a lot of water, but it's more than I'd like when I'm trying to streak a print. Dont want any moisture sloshing around contams and making it harder to clean a culture

Just pour your plates in your sab a couple days in advance. When the condensation goes down enough you can just wrap stacks of plates in cling until you’re ready to use em. I usually do 7 or 8 dishes per wrapped stack

When pouring plates (I use 2oz cups) do you keep the top off of your media bottle the entire time while pouring or do you replace the cap between dishes/cups?

During a successful pour, I leave it off the whole time cause I can pour two stacks of 10 plates in no time. However, sometimes I may fuck up and arrange a stack poorly or bump something and at that point I'll put the top on. I wont screw it on unless I have to move around a lot. I'll just set it on top while I'm moving around whatever I messed up. I normally just place the cap on the aluminum foil raised on some plates or something.

But probably 98% of the time I pour without putting the cap on until I'm done. That's just me personally though. I hold the media bottle at an angle when not pouring so that it's a little more difficult for nasties to fall in it (that's a theory... not idea if it's true).

I’ve been having different water problems.

I haven’t touched my plates in at least a month and they’ve just been sitting stacked on the table. Went through and the bottom couple of each stack had somehow accumulated enough water that some were totally submerged.

I would up the agar content a tad and let them cool completely before sealing.
The vented ones help the extra water evaporate out of the plate instead of staying in it

Yeah I'm gonna try to leave them for 3 to 4 hours in front of the hood. My hunch is that you're right and nothing is evaporating off before I'm wrapping them. I also may try to wrap them in only a couple layers of cling wrap. I've also considered upping the agar content, but I already run at 2%. I may just go buy some fresh packs. I found a hole in the wall asian store that sells 10 packs of the telephone agar for $7.50-$8.00

That sucks Aka. Mine have been sitting a while too. I went and looked and most of mine are just about clear of any surface moisture. But that's taken almost a month. I'm surprised those of yours are wet when considering how low the humidity around you is. Any idea what may be causing it?

So I bought an Anemometer and used it to confirm my suspicions about irregular flow patterns from my FH. Quickly realized the seal on top at the corner had cracked open.

Busted out the SAB to expand my few clean plates and squirted a bit of rtv in the crack. Hopefully she'll be good flow soon and I can get some real clean work crushed. Gotta get a steamer built once the hood is all right.

They’re stacked about ten high and all of them were ok except the bottom one or two. I did have some of the first plates I ever made almost totally turn to water while they were in storage in a box in the closet for a few months. The agar hardness for sure makes a difference, I went through a phase of really soft ones and they dissolve pretty bad. The plates are wrapped up pretty well so the humidity isn’t a huge factor although I do have thinner ones dry out still.

Good luck to everybody in the south about to get stormfucked.

Help pls.  I have a hpoo sub that’s seems to have started a nice pinset but all the pins seem to be aborting.  I’ve had the pins for the last 3 days and new small pins keep forming but they aren’t maturing.

Looks ok, maybe a little dry.

Sometimes it seems like the pins pop up and then don’t do anything for a couple days until there’s a bunch of them.

Will mycelium colonize a new substrate if you break it up, after a flush or after a few pins? How long do you have?

Does it stay in fruiting mode forever after doing its first flush?

Im just wondering what to do with for instance, a sub that has spent a few days in a fruiting or humidity chamber for instance, if I find out I want to spawn em to bulk.

I'm actually doing this with a shoebox right now. I realized after its first flush of 7g (all bottom pins), consistently poor surface conditions, and some research that it most likely wasn't going to be successful and needed more coir at the start. Since it had only produced one small flush I figured it was probably not that much weaker than when I first spawned it. I decided to throw a hail mary to see if I could salvage it by breaking it up and mixing in more coir. This was just a few days ago over the weekend and so far it seems like it's doing alright recolonizing the new sub. I'll take some pics and post them as I track it.

Also, I'm fully aware that I might've totally ruined this shoebox but the opportunity to learn some stuff from the process felt worth it.

Can I simply rehydrate sun dried grains?
Left em in my outside strainer for a lil too long and they dried out

Yes sometimes just a rinse is good enough if the inside is still mostly hydrated
