Storing dried cubes??

How do you store your dried cubes? I am assuming that they are cracker dry. I read some people saying that they pack them together tightly like a brick. But if it’s cracker dry wouldn’t it get pulverized like that.

I put them in a zip lock bag with a desiccant pack and put the zip lock in an air tight jar. Just put the jar in a drawer. Air tight jar with desiccant would probably be enough

Cracker dry shrooms in airtight jar with desiccant pack is my preferred way. You could powder them up and fit like 10x more in each jar.

I would prefer not to powder them. Yet putting them hole in ziplock/jar takes up a lot of space. It it feasible to press them together and stick them into a dehydrator?

Personally I went and bought a vac seal, it does compress them pretty hard but they will last indefinitely if you toss a dried bunch in a vac sealed pack in the freezer.

Can you recommend a vacuum sealer?

I am doing that now - pint and quart - but they just don't hold much. Good for a few oz but not much more.

What do you think of this one? https://www.costco.com/foodsaver-multi-use-vacuum-sealing-and-food-preservation-system.product.100648022.html
Can these be used to seal mushroom grow bags as well (the one with the filter) ?

I use 5 gallon buckets with multiple desiccant packs. I can fit about 2lbs per bucket.

I have had luck putting them in a mason jar with a desiccant pack and a hand warmer. The desiccant obviously keeps them dry and the hand warmer uses up the oxygen so nothing will oxidize. With the hand warmer the lid pops down from vacuum, normal air is 20.9% oxygen so if you take that out with the hand warmer you have effectively reduced your internal air pressure about 1/5. I have an awesome (expensive) vacuum pump and I have at times put the jar with the hand warmer and the desiccant pack and the mushrooms into the vac chamber and drawn it down to 500 microns, I could go more but the canning lids look like they are going to implode when I take it out. What my friend does is grind them up and put them in capsules, and then put that and a desiccant pack and a hand warmer in jar. That definitely makes them easier to store. i think he gets just shy of .5g in a 00 capsule if he packs them tight. That figures out to just shy of 9 ounces in a canning jar if you put 500 in it, but I think you could probably fit more like 600 in a quart jar.

You mean after you dry them I presume in a dehydrator you store them in a 5 gal bucket?

You have basically described the fundamental "problem" of storing shrooms. Every drug has its own particular needs for proper storage
For dried shrooms the problem is that they are brittle and inelastic. So the most compact way to store them is to grind them up in a powder
If you want them to remain whole and take up less space, then the best method would be a vacuum sealer. Can't really get any more compact than a bag that has had all the air sucked out of it. I don't have a vacuum sealer yet, so I can't recommend one
I just go the baggie and desiccant pouch in air-tight chamber(I've been using a cooler so far) route

I use half gallon jars for my best stuff and can fit 4-5oz depending on how big they are and how much I compact them. One of them I kept pushing my fist into it and adding more and now it’s like a brick, I should’ve kept track but there’s gotta be 6oz in it. Most of them are crushed though.

Lol, yeah I end up with a bunch of broken, smashed cubes when storing them too, tbh. I'm not as careful as I should be when handling the bags. But buying a bigass mason jar sounds like a good idea

It all depends on how much you have to store. If you're just doing one tub or something then a jar is gonna be easy. A couple tubs and you should use gallon bags, you can fit about 1lb per bag. For real bulk buckets are the way to go, just make sure the lids are airtight.
It goes without saying that you should use desiccant for any storage method.

This works great if you got the extra cash to spare, the one I mentioned before.
I know it's more than 2 X the price but it's from Costco so anything not ok with it and it goes back.
