Particle board or galvanized HEPA filter? *edited title due to autocorrect*
    #26900454 - 08/26/20 12:34 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

My last question on my flow hood, particle wood or galvanized steel. $144 for 99.99% for particle board and $199 for 99.99% galvanized. I live in Texas, it’s not crazy humid and it will be indoors. Any other real benefits? So want to keep costs lower but if there is a significant benefit to the steel I will but it, thank you.

I ended up going to Spycor for my filter, I tried Koch and damnfilters and no one could compare to Spycor. They literally were selling the same filter, 24x18x6 particle board 99.99%, Spycor was $140 $16 shipping, Koch was $144 with $128 shipping and damnfilters was $177 $99.70 shipping. If you’re planning on building a flow hood check out the Spycor website they have amazing customer service and if the filter is not on their website they can put it up for you to purchase like they did for me. Filter was $140, brand new blower was $180, plywood will be $34 for sanded pine, I have wood screws and caulk, then my pre-filter will be about $15. So everything should be less than $400. If you sign up for an Amazon card they are running a promo where they give you a $60 gift card you can use to buy your blower and Spycor uses Amazon pay so you can use your Amazon card. So what would have taken another two weeks to order I got some in 3 days. Check it out, I can’t wait to post up my flowhood build. Now I’m just building my cabinet in Sketchup so I have the exact dimensions for Home Depot for when I get my wood cut.

Yeahs that’s what I was going to build the box with and I’m going to use an air in gasket as well. Caulk I have is for wood and mold-mildew resistance for life type deal. Would you suggest painting the wood with kills? They have a new product that prevents mind and mildew or would that be overkill? Honestly I would like to stain it just for aesthetics but would rather use the kills if it will have any benefit.

what you mean by kills ?

Ive painted mine with regular white paint and used caulk for bathrooms.

I friend of mine used epoxy paint which I think is a great idea.

Killz sorry autocorrect. It’s a paint that is resistant agains mold and mildew, can kill it as well.

Killz it inside and stain the outside.  Best of both worlds.

Oh yeah you definitely need to paint in an outdoor setting lol. I’m a manager at a Walmart so I see a ton of these products all the time. There’s even some caulks that are perfect for our applications. I have to see how it paints with the Kilz but afterwards I’ll probably paint over with a polyurethane for protection. While I wait for the filter I’m looking for even better paints than the Killz that can kill mold, mildew, and potentially bacteria and viruses. Imagine how awesome that would be, it would be a mini clean room in a flow hood lol. I’m half tempted to swap my motor out with a 1TDTU2 and then putting an 8x8x6 99.97% filter as a pre-filter. Looked at the curve and it would basically work perfectly
