Did my mushrooms went bad?

Hey guys. I picked this Panaeolus Cyanescens about two days ago. I dried them with a fan over napkins and when they were dry to the touch I put them in a zip lock for another day while I was making my desiccant. When I took them out of the zip lock and put them in the desiccant they looked veeeery blue. A lot of bruising I suppose. After a day in the desiccant they look like this. And they were wet again so I put them on napkins again and now I’m trying to get a dehydrator. I don’t know what I did wrong.
My question is... the fact that they went sooo dark means they lost a lot of potency? Are they still safe to eat?

I had no idea. I didn’t mentioned something. I’m veeery new to this. Maybe I shouldn’t had put them in a zip lock bag after the fan or needed more time on the fan. Maybe I should’ve put the fan directly to them as well. There’s too much humidity here too. Is ok, there’s waaay more where those came from. Experience is the best teacher. Thank you for your reply. I’ll toss them away then I suppose?

Plastic bags are like a jail cell for moist mushrooms and molds are a rival gang. Fungi/molds feed on each other with “molds” generally being more voracious. Until they’re adequately dry, paper or wax bags are the way to go. Once they’re dry, they can be moved to plastic bags, but even better, a sealed jar with desiccant. I think I read somewhere that USDA specifies “dry goods” cannot be higher than 17% moisture, but even that seems a little high.

Sankaku, I have been taking freshly collected specimens and upon getting home wiping down the caps/stems of any debris with a paper towel until clean, and then into the dehydrator at 95F for about 20-25 hrs. Wait until the stem of your largest shroom snaps before storing. Good luck, also new here and have learned a lot!
