That being said anything that you are comfortable and proficient with to the point that you don't have to think about it.
In general for ammo keep it simple self defense rounds you want rounds that don't over penetrate as you don't to take out the bad guy and a loved one behind them and and use the other rounds for target practice or hunting.
For car and self defense a pistol of some kind and for the home a shot gun and carbine which doubles up for riot control.
I used to go with a G19 for Car/Carry now I go with an XD45 with a grip activated red dot because it's easier to carry and leaves no doubt in my mind what I'm pointing at.

Triple action pepper spray/mace works great without killing them. I used it a couple times. Best $15 ever spent.

The first gun someone should buy is a gun fucking safety course so they don't accidentally shoot their kids or their balls off.
Shotgun for home defense for sure. At close range birdshot will still annihilate someone with minimal risk to rando's on the street, your kids upstairs, or your useless dog hiding under the couch in the other room.

I asked this same question a few months ago, then started doing research and I really don’t know. So many different opinions. I just wanted to start out with a handgun that’s not a piece, easy/good priced ammo that isn’t stupid expensive. A lot of ppl recommended glocks, but then others were saying forget that. Thoughts

Should have bought one awhile ago....
Though I ll admit, I still need/want to get a shotgun. Carry: I ve been looking at sigs 365, M&P 2.0 looks interesting Car: ideally something like an hk mp5 or similar, Machine gun turret Home: handgun with light on rail, high capacity mag stuffed with defense rounds
Something like an hk mp5 would be really versatile

I suggest all liberals use .25 and .32 pistols, because their puny, soymilk-infused wrists can't work the slide on anything bigger.
Conservatives already know what to use.

Glocks are extremely simple to operate and are known to be extremely reliable. Watch a glock meltdown video on YouTube if you're not convinced.
If you enjoy the finer things in life check out the cz 75. 9mm with an all steel frame so it's heavy as hell which absorbs recoil. It's a very accurate pistol used in competition shooting. Fits like a glove in your hand too.

Glock 22, .40 S&W - general use/all situations S&W M&P Shield, .40 S&W or 9 mm, your choice - concealed carry Mossberg 590, 12 Ga, 00 or 000 buckshot, put a very bright light on the rail - home defense. There's all kinds of fun and practical accessories you can put on a 590. Suggest looking at what "pros" use, trying a few things, and settling on a build suited to your tastes/needs.
Try different calibers, find the one you click with the best. Any gun is deadly in well trained hands. Conversely a gun you cant use effectively is a liability. Most importantly practice practice practice with whatever gun you choose to own. Practice well and meaningfully. Look into a reputable instructor if you're new to gun ownership, not some tacticool faggot who will stroke your ego and sell you useless bullshit.

None - stay home.
If I leave home with my heat I am responsible for all possible outcomes.
And I'll get back to ya the min I feel the need to bring it along but by that time we will be too far gone.
Just like that little turd who pissed himself shocked he was forced to defend himself.
Premeditated intent for confrontation while carrying. Toss her cherry ass in the hole.
