What should I learn to grow next? * 1
    #26898768 - 08/25/20 01:07 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Now that I understand how to grow mushrooms pretty well I wanna switch it up a little. I thought about cactus or salvia but I figured I should see what people with a little more experience would have to say. Ganja would be my first choice but it’s a little too smelly for where I’m at right now:sad:.

Try both cactus and salvia, mostly because if you go for cactus from seed it's pretty slow even with grafting. It's very rewarding though. I've never grown salvia and don't know how easy/ hard it is though.

Maybe growing kratom would be worth it? It's not as fiddly with humidity as people make it out to be, as long as it gets plenty of sun and you keep the soil moist.

I’ll get to both eventually hopefully lol. I had to do a lot of reading for me to understand mushrooms so I’m expecting a similar learning curve for each new plant. It’ll probably be faster for me to get off the ground with just one base to cover .

Hopefully this knowledge will make me useful to the colonies after the collapse of American empire:evil:

Get a reef tank and learn to grow coral.  It's pretty neat.

Also it glows.

Psychotria is a great plant species. Look lovely, magical.

Have u grown all the mutant strains of mushrooms? What about other species other than Cubenis? If not, u definitely should as they are more of a challenge!

Also, growing cacti is a great idea. Its very slow and needs a lot of light and little water, but it sure is rewarding.

Coffee hadn’t even crossed my mind haha just wish I didn’t need so many plants to get a decent yield

I’ve got Avery's albino going on agar right now and I’m also looking to start an ovoid patch this spring, the spores haven’t germed yet though so we’ll see if I need some more in a couple weeks . Got cambos and cyans that I’ll probably make my first transfers from tomorrow but I’m gonna assume my conditions aren’t gonna be dialed in just right the first couple tries so I’m keeping my expectations low haha.

Honestly idk why more people aren’t into woodlovers, they’re a lot more physical work upfront but they require hardly any tending to once they’re established and they can live upwards of 10 years if you take care of em. Bugs suck tho lol

I meant psychotria viridis, the most common DMT component plant in Aya. There's many different strains, some very beautiful, some very rare, some very active. Interesting plant.

Didn't realise coffee was related. That's super interesting too.

Wild coffee was the first thing to come up when I searched psychotria. No idea if the beans are even edible though lol

Paychotrias suck you in. They grow so slow, will shoot from leaves, beautiful foliage and berries, potent plant medicine. First there's one, then you have another, then your leaf cuttings finally mature and you have loads and end up swapping them for other strains. People develop relationships with particular plants. They can change a life around and bring the most distracted of us back to ground. People have dedicated their lives to them.

No good if you get snow where you live though. They are tropical/subtropical plants, but tolerate cooler environs.

It really is like that though.  It’s such a simple joy - yet still a real relationship.  Also Helps to keep the reflections on impermanence & other things fresh in the mind and up close / perspective bringer.

Now don’t be making me think all introspectively ya hear?

It’s a shame more people don’t understand what it feels like to consume something that they’ve tended to for such a long time. I guess you can still feel rewarded by your office 9-5, but I don’t think it’s comparable to something like farming, hunting, or even exercise. Doing stuff that was useful for survival 1000 years ago just feels different, you know?
