Question about my hpoo

I have a 12x12 tarp full of hpoo that I’ve been keeping out in the sun the last few days and constantly turning it when it looks dry to bring the darker color stuff up. We did get one good rain the other day and I continued to keep turning it to dry it. I’ve read that some people put it in sacks and run water through it to “leech” it but I’m wondering if that is necessary for me. I’ve recently smelled handfuls from many areas of the tarp and it honestly just smells like soil. So if it doesn’t smell like piss then I don’t need to water it down? Or should I do it anyways to be on the safe side? Just afraid of loosing any nutrients and I’m in Texas so that sun dries the crap out of it. Thank you.

Ooooooh ok gotcha, so put it in two buckets, mix it up real good to get rid of those small clumps and put it back out on my tarp. When I picked it up it was pretty well sun dried, they told me it was from a dry lot but the rain really moistened it up. Thanks for the advice I’ll get to whipping up some poo! My neighbors look at me like I’m crazy lol.

Funny thing you mentioned it because I built a wooden garden in my back yard that I was going to use for my second delivery for hpoo and this ones gonna be a bit more fresh lol. Neighbors gonna truly love me. But need some excuse for all this hpoo haha. Also planning some outdoor grows right before winter with various species :P thanks for the advice, I’m very new to hpoo, I was mostly a coir guy. I’m trying a lot of different stuff out experimenting, taking notes. Got a batch that I know is a sure thing going but really trying to learn to do more interesting stuff.

I have only used manure for my substrate. I get truckloads from the local stables. Having a garden and compost is a great way to recycle through spent sub and plant scraps. The manure is a great garden amendment too. I live in a high-elevation desert and I've seen about 5 volunteer species in my garden, all edible and one psychoactive (p Sub). For substrate, I'm not too picky. I prefer older compost but I've used stuff that was about 3 months old. I think you're fine if the urine smell has leached. I usually see some pine and soil in my mix from the stables. Having well broken down manure is nice for colonization, I break up the nugs by hand if needed. As far as moisture content goes...I tried pasteurizing in plastic bags once. It sucked, I burned through the bag and burned the sub. I didn't like all the work involved for field capacity and cooking in plastic. I just throw my shit in a pillowcase, pasteurize, and hang/drip dry for a few hours then spawn.

Awesome thanks for the tips everyone! I was curious about getting a garden going portioning a spot with some alder wood and just dropping a syringe of pans there for fun lol. I really appreciate the advice, I’m about to pick up 250lbs more of hpoo, glad I built a 24x12 garden box but think I need another big tarp as well lol. I’m making donations to a local horse shelter but I’m paying $5 for a 50lb trash bag of poo. And I get a receipt I can use a tax write off. More than happy to help out abandoned animals.

So mixing up a stew, how does it look? This is half of my first batch, I’m sun bathing another 250lbs in direct sun in my back yard that will take a little while. But this stuff is pretty dry, I can put it back on the tarts if it’s not dry enough I’m just taking out the large clumps.

Edit: it looked pretty good to me, I went in and hand crushed the large lumps left over and they are dusty dry, it feels right to me but I’m still learning. I got about 90lbs in a 35gallon bucket, put another 100 lbs on the now emptied tarp, still have a 50lb bag just chilling. I need bigger tarps but I feel like the 6x8 are really easy to manage. Just next time I know get 4 bags verses 5. By the time I’m done I should have 4 35 gallon containers full of hpoo. If anyone is in need of some hpoo let me know I have a good hookup if your local in Texas haha. I’ll pasteurize it in giant bags to boot. Went to a local feed place to get straw and they were out of bales and they gave me two bags and said have at it with the leftover from the pallets. Came back with tek bags stuffed with straw so I can even do hpoo and straw mixtures. Share the wealth my friends. Maybe a small fee to help pay back my stupid expenses back into this hobby. Nothing like Etsy, maybe $1 per lb lol.
