S3 tek Shoeboxes Stalled?

Hi everyone, So I had my first successful grow. Two shoeboxes, approximately 1:1-1:2 spawn sub ratio. It was actually kind of crazy how quickly these two pinned. However, I am slightly discouraged as I have three more that don’t appear to be doing much. For the most part I’ve left them alone with the lids flipped (same as the two that worked) and only recently have begun to mist and check on them more. I used BOD’s s3 shoebox tek. It’s been about fifteen days since spawn and I’m curious if there’s anything obvious that I’m doing wrong. There doesn’t appear to be any trich or contam as far as I can tell. Do they look too dry? Should I leave them alone or perhaps dunk at the end of the third week? Appreciate any help in advance. I’m glad the grow was partially successful but I was hoping for a bit more than the 24g dry I got from the other box.
Thanks for getting me this far! (Especially Bod!)

Looks like something off with the conditions judging by the myc. Too wet or too dry, or maybe both in rotation.
They don’t look bad though it should be fine. I’ve had a bunch not pin until day 18-20.

Hmm. Good to know. Would you recognize putting them on a regular (daily) misting schedule? I’m worried about making them too wet and opening the contam door

One idea is to try to give it a bit more fresh air exchange for a day, and see if this induces pinning

Don’t mist on a schedule, only if it’s getting dry.
Misting isn’t to water the mushrooms it’s just to put water beads on the surface which evaporate and trigger pinning.
When you do mist don’t spray the surface directly, spray up and across so the water rains down onto it. It should bead up on the surface like this, two or three sprays is usually enough for me.

Do you make sure there are droplets on the surface after first/second flush? Do you bottom water after first flush? How do you know if it needs to be bottom watered? I’ve had many successful shoeboxes but I’m still learning

I bottomed watered my two that flushed. From what I understand, deciding whether or not to bottom water has a lot to do with weight. It was definitely lighter than when I first made it, so I floated the sub and just let it sit for three hours. And yeah I’m trying to check for surface moisture. I use my phone flashlight from an angle (so it’s not directly over the open sub) and move it back and forth. Makes the moisture glimmer and easier to see. Since you’ve had a lot of successful shoeboxes, how long does it generally take yours to pin?

Thanks for the tips, I misted too often instead of bottom watered after flushes and it screwed up the surface of some of my shoeboxes, just so you know that can happen. It varies a little bit, I have a good amount going so I don’t keep track the best but I would say about 10-15 days after mixing. Like, one of mine seemed to take awhile to pin, but I somehow forgot to turn the lid upside down and no shit I saw pins the next day.
I’d say about 10 days would be a “goal” timeframe to see pins but it varies. I personally just mix up a bunch of shoeboxes and let them do their thing.

It looks like you recently misted yours? Are they kinda wet? Hard to tell for sure

definitely need to get better at this, dunking the box subs between flushes and understand that im just supposed to mist the top surface to bead level
recently experimenting with wrapping the bag/liner back into form, to support really deep subs and fruits that "leave the tub"
edit:
I have experienced that misting pinsets/pins wrong, even bigger fruits, is really easy to go overboard with and ruin the flush or at least weaken it

I’m getting kinda frustrated. If I leave them alone they look too dry, if I mist them (even up in the air) they look super wet. Mycelium has no visible cotam but has started yellowing a bit. At this point I think I’m tempted to just snap the lid back on to get humidity back up and leave them alone for another 5-7 days. I feel like if I keep messing with them it’s just gonna get worse.
