Cant get lions mane to grow on agar

Hi everyone,
So i bought some lions mane sawdust spawn, and I used it to colonize some masters mix blocks, and they grew very quickly and produced huge fruits. But whenever i try to clone the strain to agar, I get very little to no growth. The picture below compares two plates, one of which contains lions mane, and the other pink oyster mycellium.

They were done the same day. I have grown numerous agar plates of oysters, kings, shiitake, but I cant seem to grow lions mane on them. I always grow on MYA (malt agar plus yeast). Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Do I need another type of agar to grow lions mane?

I think it is a little dependent on the strain. My culture is very slow on agar. One trick I've learned is to rub the mycelium in a small circle in the center of the plate. Even though you can't see anything it pops up in the rubbed area.

Check your plate better lions mane is very light and hard to see. Pink as you can tell is easy to know when you have something. Pink is dense white lions mane is not.

Although that does vary as well. The culture of pinks I used was very thin and grey, not thick white at all.

Yes, well, thats true, if i look very closely i can see something very thin growing on the plate. But i have tried transfering such thin mycellium to grain before and it didnt work. Have you guys ever managed to successfully colonize spawn with such thinly grown agar plates? I always use sorghum as grain spawn.

Yes, all LM mycelium I've ever worked with was thin like that. Grows really fast.
Are you sure when you went to grain that it wasn't also colonizing that and just thin and hard to see? Should take a week or less.

Indeed, I am not sure at all if it actually grew on grain, cause i wasnt looking for such thin mycellium. But have you transfered it from agar to grain and then to blocks and it worked? Cause the spawn I bought didnt look so thinly colonized (it was sawdust spawn).

I'm guessing it probably did grow on the grain - people miss it all the time because they're looking for oyster or cube mycelium. It doesn't look like that at all.
If you bought spawn, chances are it was older than ideal and had probably thickened up a lot and started fruiting if it looked super white. Not that it won't work that way, but like I said you wanna use it fresh before it starts thickening and fruiting if you can.

Just an update note, I ended up transferring the flimsy agar mycelia to grains, and used those grains to inoculate blocks, and got nice looking fruits, so you were absolutely right, lions mane mycelia really looks very wispy but grows fine. Thanks guys.
