Speed Up Your Harvest With an Electric Knife 2

Just wanted to share a short video of how I harvest my monos. I usually am running multiple tubs, and have a full time job, so quick harvesting is essential. I had been spending upwards of 30 minutes on a tub with scissors and sore back afterwards. Now I can harvest 4-5 tubs in the same time it used to take me to harvest one by using a cheap $10 black and decker electric knife! I average around 4-5 minutes per tub now.

Pretty great. Are you using 1 layer of micropore all the way around

yup 1 layer of extra-wide micropore tape. my holes are 1.5" so I gotta get the wide roll to get complete coverage.

Awesome, I'm converting to micropore, I used 2 layers on bottom my first couple tubs and it was way too air restricting, clusters of pins formed close to the holes gasping for air. Happy to see 1 works, I have some going with 1 now hoping for better results

Thanks! TBH the electric knife only really works well with full canopies where you can grip big patches in your hand then cut the bases. The stumps don't account for much, I still averaged 4 ounces first flush across 10 tubs from an MS culture. which is great for the 4 quarts of spawn I used.

I tend to see slightly fuzzier growth around the holes before pinning initiates from the FAE, but I don't mist it or anything, just let it roll. and it comes out well as you can see! I also run a ceiling fan on high in my tub room.

10/10 recommended . Worth it in the first half hour. Blade is so thin if I miss some stumps very easy to glide like a quarter of an inch go get the remains.
Timed myself on this tub, five minutes ten seconds. Game changer folks.

Hell yes my dude! It's pretty rewarding pulling up handfulls of fruits cut right to the base. Even more rewarding if you took the time to make a flat even surface. Then the blade glides right above the sub!

It looks like a great idea. I wonder if there is any difference between a regular electric knife and an electric filet knife. I'm not much of a foodie but I like fishing, so I might try out a kill two birds with one stone purchase.

Game changer. What took 30-45 per tub is now 5 minutes!

This is the oster model. It has a nice case and turkey scissors that come with it

wha da fuk!?!? 30-45 minutes... seriously!?!? I used mine for the 1st time this week and Im not too impressed. its really fun to use but I give it an overall C rating. I can cut just as fast and waaay cleaner with scissors but that is just me and I dont have arthritis yet soo
that tub looks thiiick, eat!
soo... maybe its my technique. I tried to get half the tub in one go and finish with the other but I dont see myself being faster than with snips. that being said I did like using it. Its fun

perhaps its in the technique? are you grabbing a handful before you cut? you wanna cut what you're holding. if you just cut a bunch of shrooms then pick up the pieces, its not so slick.

Well ive used very sharp knives as well but it takes me forever with these clippers i have now. But it was no faster with a razor sharp knife. The wg is dense as fuck. I seriously harvested 6-8 oz in 5 minutes! Im using the oster brand though. It does have a double blade.

good deal! perhaps there is a little learning curve to the technique. I def went thru a few tubs before I got the process down. first go round, I knelt down at eye level and tried just cutting it all the way across in one motion. didn't work very well.

I take the sub out put it on the lid then put the lid back on the tub so its about chest height. I had a few tubs woth flimsy fruits and it didnt work as nicely on those as it did with the nice thick stemmed fruits.

Ok so ive been in between crops so im just getting warmed back up. But my 2nd go at the knife took much longer than the first. 20-25 minutes. It still saved me time. I do have to trim up some of the fruit if i cut too deep on the sub by accident.(learning curve). As far as spot harvesting that is easy with a knife. But almost 8 ounces under 30 minutes.
Im interested to see if Apeu will be a total pita with the knife. They kinda grow sidewaYs. Those are the most time consuming for me to harvest so im going to try as i have some pinning now. Hopefully it works out because id love to save time on apeu. I might run more if that is the case.

Im still liking this.

Well holy shit, the electric knife harvester is magical. Generally this variety is so dense it takes me 45 mins to an hour per tub to harvest. It took me 15-20 with electric knife. Still let about 1/4 of the pins mature. Will harvest am. This variety was the ultimate test for the electric knife and it came through with gold!

Thread needs more love.
Mine are holding up OK. One had a bent peg from use (that holds the knives together at the end).
I folded the metal back over and smashed it a couple times and the peg is still hanging in there.

I've tried it and found the sub surface needs to be properly level and it seems my 0.3mil liners are too thin to pick up out of my monos. Tried to float em but thats a ton of water to maneuver. Ended up with a fankensub.
Moving forward I will use thicker plastic, pack the corners well, and hopefully I can saw more subs than not.

Yeah for sure. I've had years of practice making flat level monos, so that helps for sure. I use lawn and leaf bags cause they are extra thick.

Normally I've been pretty level with my sub, but I got lazy recently with the introduction of liners. I'll be off to the store for some plastic in the morning.

eatyualive said: Well holy shit, the electric knife harvester is magical. Generally this variety is so dense it takes me 45 mins to an hour per tub to harvest. It took me 15-20 with electric knife. Still let about 1/4 of the pins mature. Will harvest am. This variety was the ultimate test for the electric knife and it came through with gold!

off topic but is that the LEM stainless dehydrator? I had major issues with mine almost oven baking the mush. They would come out completely black and turn to dust. Once I tin snipped the vent holes bigger, issue gone. Curious if you had the same problem.
Back on topic, I'll have to dig out my electric knife and try this. I'm going to switch to harvesting everything at once vs staggering it to a couple tubs a day like I do now.

that is blowing my mind! 45 min to an hour? I bought 2 electric knives and have been going back and fourth with them for a bit. I havent had much use for them. it takes a certain type of fruit for them to work well which I havent been growing much of lately. now im not nocking the knife cause its fun as fuck to use and great on certain strains/ types of fruits, but goddamn! I could harvest a tub like those ones in 5-10 min with scissors. that time seems a bit absurd. well, I bought a new hedge trimmer so I may have to cut a tub with it just for fun soon, or once I grow a strain with lanky enough fruits.
I have a similar dehydrator to that one shown. It doesnt see use ever anymore due to a fan bushing that broke and it makes an awful racket. Anyone know where to get new ones for such a fan?

Hey Munch, I'm hooked on your vids. Any chance you can get this one restored when you have a free minute?
Thanks for all you do!
