When you pay for a hotel room, shouldn't you have it for 24 hours?

Isn't that how it should be logically?
But instead often times you can't check in until like 3 or even 4 pm, yet they want you out by 10 am.
If you're going to pay good money for a room shouldn't you have it for 24 hours? A full 24 hour day? Why do we have to check in late but leave early?

I like clean hotel rooms. That's my guess that's an average turnover time for all rooms in the hotel, but if you ask nicely you can get early check-in, late check-out free most places.

You should start your own hotel, with hookers and blackjack.

I mean, this is the answer. Pretty straightforward. If you take out a room for multiple days you have it the whole time on the days in between. The gap seems so big because the cleaning staff is limited and has to attend to all of the rooms that are being turned over.

last time I had a room I forget when they wanted me in and out, I checked in at 2pm and got instant access, and I left by 8am to catch a train home
it cost me $139.85, it was Alexandra Hotel just off Bathurst in Toronto, and its back faced Alexandra park, it was probably the cheapest hotel downtown and it was a decent room, in one of my favourite areas in Toronto
EDIT:
I was looking at hostels where you share a room with 10 other people for $30 a night, but I thought fuck that and shelled out for a hotel

Horrible take. Someone has to clean up your mess after you leave.

I checked into a courtyards by marriot at noon and checked out at 2pm. They only charged me for a partial day. It was awesome.

Usually I don't pay for 24 hours. It's like a solid 25 minutes for me.
