Golen Oyster / newbie?

I have 5 quarts of Golden Oyster colonized grain. I would like to spawn and fruit these. I have a few questions (my only experience is with cubes).
Can I grow these indoors where the temperature is 74?
Can I use coir for substrate, if not what are my options?
Can I grow in mushroom grow bags?

If you're growing oysters indoors, just be ready to struggle with getting them enough airflow, unless you already have a fair amount of experience with running a greenhouse.

I have no experience with greenhouse. All the cubes I have grown were done indoors, without tent. I would like to grow these indoors. I need some guidance how to go from the grain spawn to substrate.

I am assuming you have at least a 23-quart pressure cooker. If so buy a 40 lb bag of hardwood fuel pellets should be $6 or less. buy a bag of wheat bran and use this recipe but be careful with the water field capacity is not the same as coir. Take a handful of sub and squeeze hard 1 drop at the most is all you want. PC at 15 psi for 2.5 hours.

You can fruit on a table that gets indirect light but you will have to mist a lot.

I'd recommend setting up something like a greenhouse to get the oysters enough air. You cannot do it in a monotub or anything similar.

You use filter patch bags. This is the cheapest place to buy them I have found...

Yes, I have them and currently use them for rye/cubes.
But if enough air gets in through the filter why would I need/benefit from a tent?

Because enough air does not get through the filter for growing oysters. The filter is just for gas exchange when colonizing.

If the bag is sealed with only filter for gas exchange how is air going to get in?

I'm trying to help you here but I'm really not sure what it is you're not understanding.

In the bag, while colonizing the sub only needs little air exchange. Then you will slice the bag and pins will start to form from where you slice the bag once pins have started forming you need a lot of FAE. Or you will get nothing but stems.

Thank you very much for your answers and patients. I continue to ask because I don’t get it. Wouldn’t just leaving a bag with holes made in it have all the air it could need? Leaving it on an open shelf.
I also am not clear if the substrate can be coir as I do with cube?

A bag with holes in it will contaminate. I would use hardwood fuel pellets for the substrate. It is much cheaper than the coir. About $6 for a 40 lb bag. That 40 lb bag of fuel pellets will make about 33 5 lb bags of sub if supplementing with soy hulls and about 16 5 lb bags if using bran.

Yes, but you're not going to get much moisture on an open shelf in your house, unless you're in an extremely humid climate.

At 75* your goldens are going to colonize very slowly, and the mycelium is likely to just weakly colonize your bag (it will look thin and whispy). I just got done with a golden run and the 75* temp was sub par for colonization (it just took extra long about 45 days). My golden bags colonized right next to my King bags, the King bags colonized beautifully and quickly while the goldens went slow and looked weak. The problem youre going to have is fruiting. If your average day temp is 75* then what is your nightly low temp? Temps in the 60's will abort goldens, as I have painstakingly found out myself. Dont try buckets if youre going to be leaving them in a garage overnight. Your best bet is to grow them from bags in a temperature controlled room. Too much of a temp swing and golden just give up. Patience is key though.. I have colonized golden bags that I inoculated mid July that are actually pinning and trying to fruit now. Its just simply not warm enough here. I will never try to grow them again without a GH or martha setup. Good luck my dude.

I live in hot climate so it's A/C here 24/7 and the temperature 74/75. The rye spawn here has colonizaed very well and quite quickly.

Yeah but Im talking about your bulk sub colonization. Thats good you have a constant temp though. Give it a whirl, see how you make out!

If you are wanting to make money don't use rye it is too expensive. I use whole oats and millet 50/50 by weight.
