so... I want to build biomechanics * 2
    #26890777 - 08/20/20 09:13 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

This is going to be an ongoing process, a dream of sorts.

I'm  collecting data on different aspects of one internal system of one unit of a beginning  stage of of a full apparatus.

Presently the system is a human leg, more specifically, a question about electrical motor size vs torque.

So practically speaking, I'm high and confused about the math conversion of rpm, torque, and weight pulling capacity.

Theoretically an electric motor is being used in a manor to "drill" a circular disc that is being "unscrewed" on a grooved bar with the disc moving inward towards the motor, pulling a metal wire against the force of let's say 350lbs. Then "screwing" outwardly the disc, releasing the pulled weight back to a lesser degree of the initial 350lbs, down to the least weight being pulled  when the bar has the disc at the far end.

TL;DR I need a small electrical motor that can be applied for pulling 350lbs of force/weight.

Also I haven't made a thread in a while, sup?:awehigh:

Do the math with units only. Start with the concept then solve for x.

Also with torque, don't you have to convert rotations/minute into some other unit?

For torque you need force and a distance. I think the distance is the radius from the center of rotation to where you are applying the force (if you picture a wrench or something). So if you apply a pound of force a foot away from the center of rotation it's a foot-pound of torque.

Don't entirely understand the description of the mechanism though. Or what the goal is for the bigger project. A mechanized suit? A robot?

How fast do you need to move this weight? You need to know something about your timescale before you can determine power.

I was rereading it and I think the motor drives a threaded rod acting as a worm gear, and it is supposed to generate a linear force of 350 lbs from the part that moves along the rod when it turns. The only online calculator I was able to find for this is only in metric units. And it requires knowing some specifications for the threading.

Why not just use a linear actuator? That seems like a lot of extra steps, if I understand you correctly.

I'm getting to it thoooo

But I'm juggling so many balls bro.

I suppose I could realistically make superhuman strength power suit pieces down the road:strokebeard: however the goal atm is to max out the peak strength of the wiring of which the force is exerted upon, as to get a better understanding about how  to over load without causing internal fraying, tearing, blending, or cracking, of the inner auxiliary power units for both weigh bearing upon movement, and movement itself in real world situations.

I'm working on a replacement of a human leg. A left leg. Specifically the delicate bits between the shin and the toes.

Ideally, I'm going to be making a fully functional replacement human leg, minus the ability to feel, that can be medically attached to the nervous system.

Like myself for example. I have a long standing knee injury,an ankle injury and am aware of the cartilage damage. If I get old enough, I'm going to need a knee replacement. Months of physical therapy and then live a more cautious life with my titanium ballsocket knee.

Ooooorrrr... I could have a replacement and kick walk unbroken glass barefoot.

The only downside of sinking in water I guess.

As fast as possible, ideally close to human reflexes.  I guess the key part is that it's not intended for the full weight. It's the top hat of possibilities. These motors will be very touchy on fluctuation of time needed, weight holding requirements under the top.

So time is a factor after I can find the right motor. The hardware will do the rest.

I mean that's what I'm trying to achieve, so this is progress. I just need one that'll handle 300lbs of force pulling:feelsgoodman:

These things already exist, in many different flavors, Hell, Harvard is working on one that includes a sense of touch

Look up biomechanical prosthesis
