PSA 1 quart mason jar availability.
    #26895419 - 08/23/20 01:28 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Something we noticed as a community was that pressure cookers started to become harder to come by and then the supply of both All American and Presto units went to heavily delayed back order as the foundaries could not keep up. AA said they had something like 20k units on backorder and normally they sell that many in a years time.

All four Wal-Marts in my area are completely out of 1 liter/qt mason jars of both lid sizes. Canadian Tire as well as Home Hardware. Wal-Mart has been sold out for nearly two weeks now and the MOD could not tell me when more were arriving.

Just smells like the current PC situation all over again to me so if you were thinking of obtaining jars and there is stock available near you it may be a good idea.

I'm having great luck at Big Lots for pint jars, while supplies last.

Might hit the swap meet when it cools down, who knows if I'll find either.

Try checking the GoPresto site weekly, they say they won't have more 23qts til November, but users have reported picking them up more than recently.

Keep checking walmart's site for quart jars, if you shop there. Buy several and ship them to yourself for free. You'll fit in with the rest of the home canners.

Unless you have shoeboxes, then hold onto those.

Head down to the store, buy some butterfly clips, dub tub your jars, forget about them, move to Kensington, buy a boat you only ever keep in your driveway, become a Pinterest administrator, sell dollar store mugs with rhinestones hot glued all over them.

If you have Target around you go there. All of them around me are stocked.

I've noticed this shortage recently as well. I live very close to two major supermarket type stores, one of them recently restocked on widemouth quart jars but I've had to talk myself out of buying them because I'm trying to move away from jars and towards grow bags

I prefer the simplicity of jars, but they do take up quite a bit of space and require cleaning, which is no big deal at first, but I currently have 36 quart jars and 12 half pints and it's getting to be a bit much for my little apartment

I've been looking for widemouth pint jars for weeks... everywhere within a 50 mile radius is totally sold out.

A google search for "canning shortage" brought me a couple of articles from small town news outlets, pointing at the fact that folks have been gardening more, therefore tending to their fruit trees, wanting to do something with the result, etc. No doubt the economy and job loss is a factor. Comparing this to the Great Canning Jar Shortage of 1975, when a recession triggered the run on supplies...

I've got two dozen half-pint jars, I'm doing four per shoebox. I'm grumpy about it, but at least I can keep things going. Tough time to try to get into the hobby, couldn't imagine trying to spawn a tub that way!

Aw man JCM, first you're bragging to me about your gallons of 70% iso last week, now you're dunking on me about your totally unused piles of jars... I can't handle it

I use pint-sized because of a small pressure cooker, but someone smart should take you up on that! I'll keep refreshing inventory page at Ace Hardware... haven't felt this pathetic since I was obsessively refreshing Ticketmaster for Radiohead concert tickets back in 2003
