Pre-inoculated wood spawn vs liquid culture for growing oyster mushrooms
    #26894965 - 08/23/20 08:31 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

I've started out with mushroom cultivation using a grow kit consisting of wood spawn, a flower pot and coffee.  To no one's surprise this went bad and I had to bury the trich-infested mess in a nearby forest.  Maybe it will recover and I'll be rewarded with fruits later, but I'm not terribly hopeful.

I've read a bunch more on the forums, but most resources are about actives.  I have the choice between getting more wood spawn from the same national vendor or liquid culture from an international one.  From what I've gathered liquid cultures are a riskier option, but common for commercial operation.  I'm still skeptical ready-made wood spawn is better for a beginner, I'd like to go through as much of the growth cycle as possible.
Wood spawn or liquid culture?
You may choose only one

The source is gonna matter more than the medium - LC works great if it's from a good supplier, so I voted for that.

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.

Fair enough, I guess the riskiness applies to people creating their own liquid cultures.  I'll look into them as soon as I get my hands on a pressure cooker.
