    #26894233 - 08/22/20 08:11 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat: SW FL Treasure coast, growing directly from dung.
Spore print color: purple
Bruising:blue where cut

Hey guys - still new to this so just want to make sure I have cubes and a couple pans. The meanies are in the top left of the day 1 pic, far right on day 2 pic, took a while to bruise but eventually bruised heavily blue that turned dark. Thanks for the help!

Worst case you could have 1 or 2 panaeolus antillarum but theyre edible. My advice would be, since they're wild and can vary in potency, to dry them cracker dry and break them up really well then mix them all together more predict potency. Nice haul though! All are cubensis, panaeolus cyanescens, and MAYBE an antillarum

Thank you! I examine, tap, clip with scissors, and observe for blueing before each one goes in the box. That certainly doesn't make it failsafe, but I am pretty confident I'm getting the hang of identifying cubes, pretty much everything in this field is a cube, aside from a few randoms. I have spotted what I believe is the death cap, or a similar looking mushroom that's far whiter with a thicker stem, different texture to cap, etc.
Here are a couple pics, let me know if these help, and any tips to distinguish between the pan species would be really helpful!

Thanks for the tips and info! Some def look more potent than others. I have separated them to some degree - pretty/clean, unopened caps (my gf calls them penises), and younger...vs the fully opened caps that are waterlogged/older looking. In my mind these are strong vs mids, but it's a guess at best - maybe my assumptions based around visual ID are incorrect.. They have all gone thru the dehydrator, and I assume I may respectively break them up to even out potency make tea or kool aid.

Take a pic of everything you find, not just the actives, and post it in their respective threads. I known i can speak for a few of us in that we LOVE identifying mushrooms of all kinds!

Its not too hard to tell p. Cyanescens from p. Antillarum. Cyans bruise blue/black and ants don't, really its that easy. Looks like what you have is all cyans though.  You seem to have the genral idea of what you're doing and I can appreciate the desire to stay safe.

Tea is my preferred way to consume, add some fresh lemon juice for a real experience too. Just don't make a huge batch and store it cause it will go rancid before you finish it all, make it fresh each time.

As far as telling the two apart - all the pans I seem to find growing directly from dung appear to be of three types - often larger - with a greyish cap that is sometimes scaly, white stem, no bruising...and then two that have slight tan hues to their cap along with the greyish white, and have either white/light tan stems that bruise, or some eith similar caps yet darker brown stems that don't do anything.  Not sure what these three types are, but essentially if they look like cyans, we have been grabbing them, and holding them like cigs for several minutes to see if there is any colored bruising..yes in box for later study, no we toss.

Thanks much for these tips! For the sake of ease/efficiency I might have considered a bulk batch of water from which to make tea or drinks, glad you warned against.

I will do my best to take pics of other random mushrooms for the board. I get so excited seeing more and more cubes, coupled with 90+F heat and sweat, I haven't been stopping to take as many photos.  There are definitely some crazy colored things growing on logs, and elsewhere. It absolutely poured all day yesterday, I am considering going out hunting at this point, but realistically after going several days last week, and not being avid eaters, we have more than we know what to do with. Good problems!
