You gave fae too early. The surface looks matted and dried. You shouldn't handle the brick around. Just keep it moist while colonizing, as you see pins you can give fae. I don't know if pins will make it through the surface, but i'd give it a good mist and leave it alone then.

this is the growkit fruiting chamber. that thing is looking like a dried out bacterial mess and you should really explore using the very detailed write ups and information contained here to learn to do it yourself cuz this is what happens when you fall for advertising and try to basicly add water and watch it grow. i mean its not a chia pet

i honestly wouldnt keep it at all but thats up to u. if u do id try to soak it for a few hours and try to fruit it but it looks pretty bad and matted dry and has what looks like that bacterial blobby look goin on in spots. personally id toss it and start fresh with a diy tek from here. 16 days is quite a long time and that thing is gnna look pretty moldy most likely when its given as much water as it needs so 🤷🏼
if u wanna try going about it the do it yourself way i can provide u with links to bods teks and they are easy to follow and will get u mushrooms
here u go

Thanks for the replys. I brought 2 just as it was so "easy" to learn but both look like that. Waste of time Not just blaming the kit it was also my mistakes. I am gradually gathering the bits to get my own just waiting for spores now. Going to try the pf tek? Really think these cakes are past saving then?

personally id gather supplies make up a sab then makebup some pf jars once your syringes come and do things the correct way so you were sure of the precautions taken and that there is nobody to blame but yourself. plus after the first grow your costs will be next to nothing so id follow the pf tek to the letter and learn all u can from the experience. then progress to a bulk grow and use agar to obtain a clean culture and put it to grains and spawn to a bulk sub in a monotub and after that youl b putting up canopies in no time🤘

Here's how to solve your problem.
Step 1: throw out your grow kit. Step 2: buy vermiculite, brown rice flower, 1/2 pint mason jars, and a spore syringe (you likely have everything else you need at home) Step 3: follow the pf tek according to Bod's easy AF link in my signature (avoids making a fruiting chamber by fruiting inside plastic baggies) Step 4: stop here if you're satisfied or keep learning better techniques like bulk, grains, agar, etc.
This is way easier & cheaper than a grow kit and will actually give you experience growing mushrooms not just injecting spores into a pre-made box. +you can use the materials for more than 1 grow.

That is not looking so hot. I do not think I have seen many so textured. They are usually uniform and flat. Patience is the name of the mushroom game. To early and things can go south. Starting over is all part of it. Figure out what you did right and do not repeat with you did wrong. You will get plenty of good advice here. The trash can or a dirt pile would be a possible destination for what you have going. That cobweb stuff is the pits.
The post above nails it for easy growing been at it awhile now myself. Jars at Target 12 for 8.50, Amazon for Perlite (2x) and Vermeculite (2x), pore tape. Whole foods for organic brown rice flower. Goodwill Value village for a used PC check the seals, dehydrator and most everything else you will need. on 8 jars I do 5vm 2.5br 2.5dw and a pinch of gypsum(not needed) that 4 2 2 is not enough to fill 8 jars.I worked one syringe for almost 9 months producing many generations of fun. Now I am reprocessed with all the stuff I have learned. One cake I got 6 flushes off!(But I had a few that went 1)
If you get spores I used RS from the vendors list. Excellent vendor.

What makes me most angry, is that vendors are pulling money out of peoples pockets. Substrate and plastic are just worth a few bucks, and is done in mass production like cheap trash from Far East. If you`re lucky you`ll catch a pressure cooker for the price of a growkit, you`ve got the most expensive tool for your hobby then. The rest are raw materials and some other tools.
I guess i wouldn`t say a single word, if they`d sell their kits for let´s say 10 bucks, and prepare them with knowledge and love. But then there`s also shipment on top of that.
I understand when people argue they only want a few shrooms, lasting for a few years, then buy another one. But it`s really so much more fun to grow your own, and it isn`t that hard as it sounds in the beginning. As you master agar works, you made 75% of your path. It`s also not that time consuming, most of the time you just wait or throw an eye on.
So in the end, you learned something. Your substrate got dry-wet-dry-wet-dry-wet and so on. If you wouldn`t have vermiculite on top, you`d better see that yellow/blue stressed myc. Take it as a lesson in surface conditions
