Help! Mushrooms shriveling up/aborting 1

This is my first grow. I’m using the PF tek and fruiting in a shotgun fruiting chamber. My first flush was going pretty well, but the fruits were very small. In the past week or so things have seemed to take a turn for the worse and my mushrooms are all turning black and aborting. I am missing multiple times a day, and the perlite in the bottom is still moist. Is it a humidity problem or something else?? Also worth noting, my roommates like to keep it pretty cold in the apartment. Probably around 65 degrees. Any help and recommendations would be appreciated.

Did you have your cakes directly on the perlite? If so you need to put tinfoil down under your cakes. If your cakes sit directly on the perlite it will wick moisture out of your cakes. I would harvest what you got, dunk for a second go (around 8 hours) and make sure to put some foil under your cakes when you put them back. Also try CBK’s Bottom Watering Tek for your cakes.
After dunking and putting back in your chamber give them a day or two before you resume misting. You want to make sure your cakes evaporate a bit in between misting in order for pins to form best. Evaporation of your cakes is vital. If they stay to wet they don’t produce as much.

Temp is fine, I actually prefer fruiting in the high 60s.
The cake is bruising so something is off with the conditions.
I’ll give my normal advice and suggest trying a shoebox next time, much much easier and way more forgiving of conditions dipping out of the optimal range.

Easy mistake lol. You will probably get a better flush next go after the dunk. After a while you’ll get used to how much moisture your cakes should have. You can kinda feel the weight after the dunk, you want it to weigh just about as much as when you first dunked it. Just remember, evaporation is key.

Thank you, i will definitely look into it for my next grow. Just wanted to stick to the very basics for my first time. Definitely looking to try some bulk teks at some point.

You definitely should get into bulk. I ran cakes my first couple grows, the first time I had around 20 cakes in a sgfc, the second time I went to bulk and made five shoeboxes. I got more from the cakes but I learned about bulk the second go. Now I can give advice on both so it’s good to try a lot out. I did a couple mono tubs later down the line but favor shoeboxes more. Good luck, and you’re welcome

If they were bone dry you may want to go over eight hours. Just give them a feel after six and go up from there if they need more. You don’t want to much water because they can become water logged or soggy. You want it just right lol.

Over misting can also cause aborts just for future reference. Just be careful because if you dunk and maintain the humidity you shouldn’t need to mist as much as you might think especially the first flush. At the same time I have no experience using a SGFC. I used a Humidity Chamber for BRF cakes for mine.
Utilize the search function to read up on surface conditions

Yeah, they are dried out too much. Make sure to mist as needed, especially if the cakes are light or look dry. Light misting on the cakes, heavy misting on the perlite.
