I have been drying my golden teachers in a instant pot air fryer that has a dehydrator setting on it, it took about two hours at 175 and they are so dry they do not bend at all just crack so does this sound about right to y’all most things I read on here people take up to 24 hours to dry

I have one of those and haven't thought to try that. I have a regular dehydrator and it's worth noting that the air fryer is considerably louder and it sounds like it uses more electricity based on the manual. I've never used its dehydrator setting though, so maybe it's no worse. How many dry grams were you doing at once? With a dehydrator on 165 it usually only takes me 4 hours or so just to do a small amount.

Just a couple at a time my first few flushes were not very productive, ended up with two Dry grams both times

Yeah that few don't need 24 hours in a regular dehydrator. I think when people say to dry them for 24 hours they're talking about bigger flushes than you or I have dealt with. Everything I've read so far says heat is fine in drying and most likely beneficial, so if they're cracker dry after a run in the air fryer then they're good. Just might have to adjust your time up if you start getting bigger flushes. Plus that tiny basket will start forcing you to pile them up on top of each other with larger hauls, too. I dunno how well that will work for drying, but maybe experiment a little.

I read the following link by Mushboy and was instantly convinced to dehydrate for 24 hours and let cool before bagging. Another tip is to put your lips to the ziplock bag and inhale the air out of the bag before storing, not perfect but better than nothing.

That's a great post but it doesn't mention heat. I thought a certain amount would kill the psilocybin?

The thought of inhaling dry shroom air makes me gag...Get a desicant and keep it in there....
I've quick dehydrated shrooms in the oven at 200* on the convection setting, it does work. I've read that 300*+ damages the potency, so you should be fine, but in the end if you grow again a dehydrator is recommended as a way to ensure you don't over run your air fryer, have more space, and use less power.

Man this comes up a lot.
Yeah you need to get extremely hot to degrade them.
People boil them for like ten minutes or more to make tea no problem.

I'm not disagreeing with Mushboy at all, I'm sure that for his dehydrator and the amount of shrooms he's drying it probably takes that long. I'm only on my second grow and I'm usually drying like a handful to a tray at a time on 165 for 4-6 hrs and tossing them in a jar, where they're still cracker dry after a month. I'm sure that time will go up as my yields do.

My perspective on this is pretty simple: An extra few hours in the dehydrator is so easy and makes me feel my mushies are guaranteed to stay crispy for a long time to come (think about all the time you have already spent on them, this has to be worth it). I store them inside bags and them inside another opaque, air-tight container. Once you start getting into ozs or more, you will notice that storage can become a pain in the ass so start good practices early.

I don't understand why people wanna push how short they can dry their shrooms in.
There's no point at all to check them at 2 hours, or 4 hours or 10 hours.
Even if it's 1 shroom, I'd let it go 24 hours.
What does it cost like 25¢ in electricity?

That's a good point but (maybe I'm thinking way too hard about it?) I feel like there might be a difference between basically cooking shrooms in tea for a few minutes as opposed to baking them for many hours.
