If you ever yad a toddler blaring at full volume in stores, you will have had people passing you that had the thought of kicking the poor kid in the face or slamdunking him or her into a cans pyramid.
People aren't all that nice and like Enlil said, a lot of people will have ghastly thoughts that they in almost all cases will never act on.
I doubt it would have gotten aired if it was that atrocious.
Its a very triggering subject.

A subtitled French movie about a Muslim girl, it wouldn't even be in the top 100 if the outrage mob weren't melting so hard over it. The best strategy would have been to ignore it, I know for sure it would have never been on my radar without all this hysteria. Controversy is never a bad thing for a movie, it always results in more box office. As soon as someone tries to stop me from seeing a movie I make sure to see it. If you don't like it, don't watch it. You don't get to tell me what to watch though.

Read the thread, saw some good points on both sides. My bottom line is as follows:
I don't think the movie in inherently bad. What the media and marketing of the movie did was take it to an inappropriate level, imho.
This was intentional, and yes, it worked in getting people arguing and ultimately watching the film to see for selves.
However,
I do think that pedophilia is becoming normalized. Cuties, giggle buttons, dance moms show, child trafficking in the news, hell, boy lovers 'religion..' it's stripping our kids' childhood away, and that is sad.
There is a disconnect that we feel from our childhoods. When we were little we wanted to be teens/adults. When we became adults we longed for our childhoods. Feel like there is a relation somehow, haven't completed in mulling on that.
What I do know is how impressionable kids are, they are a blank slate and I don't think it should be loaded up with similar aged peers twerking and acting sexual.
At the very least, the BS needs to be balanced with wholesome influence. And the scene is pretty dark these days..
I don't think Eminence was treated fairly before Asante entered. Obviously, he is very concerned with the welfare of our children.
He sees what I'm seeing, if anyone denies that sexualization of kids isn't occurring, their eyes are wide shut..
I think it -is- important that red flags are triggered, that this upsets people, even if in this specific situation, the upset is not warranted. But not ignored..
These things -need- to be discussed, questioned, and vetted to be sure nothing is out of sorts.
