Thank you! Heck if I can keep grabbing wood from both places, found a place online to buy screen material cheap I’d make some for local folks for pennies on the dollar haha. The newest one I made in my write up works best, has a plank in the middle prevents sagging so the water doesn’t collect in the middle. I’m going to do the same thing with my first one. Shoot I put it outside in the Texas sun and it was perfect dry in minutes and I made enough for 21 jars.

lol. Nice screen duddddde. Though.. building a grain screen isn't really the most complicated thing in the world 😅. Just messin, I had one like that but made a new one from a tote/ tote lid so I can do it indoors right in the kitchen during the winter. (Obv mine is for small sxale home growing). Ive even used the lid to catch oysters when we go foraging and we have someone climb the tree and drop them down haha. MULTIFUNCTIONAL BABY.

You're right though, its a great hobby that has alot of room for creativity and experimentation. 😊

That’s such a good idea, I’m going out to grab a tub and make one lol. One problem I found was where I live in Texas there are deer every fucking where. I walked outside and found 5 chowing down on my grain haha. So now I’m making another screened lid. I think I’ve seen people used circular mesh tumblers. Was thinking of making one that rotates with a small heating element that will dry them out. I should probably google it and find exactly what I need but that destroys the fun.

Just letting them steam off for 10-15 mins in the kitchen or outside has always been fine for me. A tumbler with a heater sounds absolutely ridiculous.. maybe for commercial growers or something? Still sounds totally unnecessary haha. Def try the tote out, I love it for my small operation. If I time it right I even use the captured super nutritious (already boiled) grain water to hydrate sup blocks. Anytime I can reuse makes me happy, even if its water. 👍

I like the idea of the mesh screen if I am putting together larger batches of grain. I can reduce my drying time somewhat by increasing the surface area of the drying space. When this hobby becomes an obsession, efficiency increases equals more free time to do other stuff (like enjoy the fruits of my labor).

Can't argue with that!
