Possible contamination?
    #26889257 - 08/19/20 10:22 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

These Costa Rican’s are not looking so good, this is the second flush and both the first and second flush had small, skinny, unhealthy looking fruits. I harvested what looked like the healthiest fruits off of the first flush, but these are looking even worse. Is this a contam? Or a lack of FAE/humidity? Are these ok to harvest or should I not even risk it? Do you think I could improve the results of a future flush by flipping the substrate over?

Thats weird. I hope that is a so aggressive mycelium that is eating his own fruits, or is coweb.

I'm afraid you may have cobweb. When fruits get covered with a thin layer of fluff or whitish/ grayish slime, that is a problem and usually indicates Dactylium. If it IS, even the fruits that look OK despite being stunted in growth may be rotten inside if/when you cut them open. Even If they are soft instead of firm, they are infected even though not obviously rotten. When the infestation really gets rockin', the primordia either abort or get turned into a little hunk of jelly junk.

Lots of people think of cobweb as being aerial and obvious -and in the classic sense this is true. But often it runs throught nhe sub as a gray mycelium which is hard to detect on some casing especially after it has been run through with healthy mushroom mycelium. Also, there is Hypomyces which is related to classic Dactylium but may present itself in a different way than classic cobweb but still kills your project in the same way.

Usually too high humidity levels results in 'fuzzy feet', not a thin film of 'something' growing on your caps. Also you mention unhealthy looking fruits so SOMETHING is up

BTW, dactylium is not harmful to your health. It does spread easily and invisibly through the air though. Usually it is introduced into your project through the casing soil although it can be transmitted through the air.

Hope this helps and good luck!
