possible contam issues in house. Can I work outside?
    #26887605 - 08/19/20 12:07 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hi, so the house I'm currently living in has major water damage and heaps of leaks around the place. There is heaps of mold patches in different rooms and now my kitchen (where I would normally use as a work space) has just started flooding from a pool of water in the roof. I've noticed new mold in there and I'm worried about how big the risk of contam would be in the house as most rooms in the house have a slight mold issue (or have in the past).

the house is so far gone at this point theres not even a possibility of cleaning it all really so am wondering what my chances are like working outside as there are only so many surfaces I can disinfect out there.

maybe I can just set up a little work space in a cupboard or something if outside isnt a good idea?? what are my best options ?? hope someone can provide a little bit of guidance here cheers

Outside is where those molds come from. Honestly there is so much mold floating around a house it won't ever be sterile. Imo your best bet would be to set up a little green house with a sab inside and do sterile work there, once you are done with nutrient substrate you don't have to worry much. Air movement is your enemy here, thats how mold moves. I started growing in a dilapidated apartment with mold all over and I did fine.

Yeah, it would still be better to work inside.

If you can get your hands on some tea tree oil, mix 1 teaspoon to 1 cup of warm water in a spray bottle. You can use this to clean any little bits of mold where you want to work. It's very cheap and doesn't take long to do if you're worried about the work area.
