What’s the reason some 2+ flushes turn out like this?

I’m not sure if these boxes are 2nd or 3rd flush. The sub doesn’t feel too dry, but has no droplets at the surface. I’m tossing the one box, it just curious what happened? It seems like it’s cuz it was too wet... what’s causing the stunted growth in the clusters?

The third picture especially I guess. They’re all stunted

If the first flush or two turned out good, I thought it was normal for subsequent flushes to produce much less or smaller fruits.
Although I usually only get mold on my second flush, so I would wait for someone with more experience to reply!

2nd and third flush are usually a smaller quantity of larger fruits IME
That sub might be on the verge of showing some green
Or maybe just environmental conditions
I'm no expert and my tubs do all kinds of strange stuff with MS.

These are all Agar. I’m not worried about the amount of pins, I’m just curious what I’m doing wrong. Like the clusters that stopped growing

I usually attributed it to bacteria when it happened to me.. usually happened during the summer months when it was unusually hot. Have you noticed higher fruiting temps?

Was it an MS grow? I get a lot of variability in fruit size, clusters, and aborts with MS grows. Your colonized substrate doesn't look very clean and healthy. It would be a good idea to revisit your agar, grain, and substrate processes to ensure you're using clean technique and appropriate process parameters.

Those fuzzy feet / bodies can mean poor FAE among other reasons. What’s your tub setup like? Are you misting & fanning or just leaving it alone? Neither are bad options, but if it’s not dialed in right or you’re overdoing or under doing the fanning / misting it could be hurting them.
*Edit* It also looks like your sub shrunk to all hell. What happened there?

Idk why they shrink, it only happeneds late second flush, third flush. My first flush is always solid, then I was usually giving it a good mist (some said I should just dunk it for like an hour instead, idk what’s best.) I use the 6qt shoeboxes like Mushboys tek, I leave the cover on but not snapped in. I’m confused why they get the fuzzy feet and some get stunted growth.
I have a decent amount of boxes going, so I’m not sure which is which but a few of them after inoculation got way too hot in a closet, so maby they became slightly bacterial and it’s causing them to have issues. I try to aim to have droplets at the surface, it seems like some will shrink but even with good misting not come back to their original size. Maby they got too dry and needed a dunk?

I switched from a heavy mist to an hour long dunk and have never looked back. My tips based on my success are to use clean water, I like to boil and let cool. May be a waste of time since the tub is in open air but I like to be on the safe side and don't trust my old piping. I tape the liner with shipping tape then pour down the side with the tape. This allows me to get a controlled flow without worrying that I am going to flood the tub outside the liner. I also prefer not to pour water on the surface of the substrate. Standing water on a substrate seems to be akin to drowning. For whatever reason, my substrates tend to knot up and reduce subsequent flushes if I pour on the surface. Therefore, mist the surface as you normally would after the dunk to ensure proper surface conditions.
This is just on hydration, the second part of the recipe is proper air exchange. This is the go to post for surface conditions, and I see it being floated all the time. Definitely worth a refresher, might remember a forgotten detail or two that will help on your journey. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23999053

Ok thanks bud I really appreciate it. I was having trouble with some flushes so I just kept making more shoeboxes but had to remedy the situation. I was thinking the misting wasn’t helping, will switch to a dunk.

No problem, I am curious as to why you use the 6 qt tubs? If it is a limitation on spawn then I would immediately move to agar and grain, otherwise bigger monotubs (to a degree, at least 55-60 quart) have tended to produce better results for me than minitubs, both with a good spawn ratio (1:2 - 1:3).

Honestly it’s because everything was working great until recently. I actually only use agar as well, onto like 7th transfer agar and it has been looking great. I’ve been meaning to use monotubs and I probably will now that you said something. My closet is kinda of small and I already have like 15-18 shoeboxes going so maby I’ll save some space using monotubs? I’m trying to keep everything in this closet.
I actually normally have a lot of spawn going too, currently only have 7 jars colonizing but that’s enough to at least start a monotub. Another reason I didn’t do tubs is bc some people say they get similar results from shoeboxes to monotubs, I might as well try it out myself.
I would go unmodified I think bc I don’t like the idea of polyfilled holes. What do you use?

Ah well the key is to what works best for you but I find half the fun is trying to optimize if you have the resources (I started during the pandemic so get creative and make it work). I have been experimenting with different tub designs and am excited to try Pasty's tek (also have been dying to get my hands on some RustyWhytes) because I have a lot of airflow in my room with the AC and often a fan. Though I have to say I have had better success with micropore tape than silly polyfil.
