Another Noob and his first casing........
    #2688708 - 05/16/04 10:47 PM (14 years, 13 days ago)

I have birthed a few casings after patching 3 times. Myc growth looked fairly even and was very aggressive. I am using perlite, 2 long bubbler stones, and ultra sonic humidifier for humidity all in a 2 tier plant greenhouse. After being in the greenhouse for 2 days I have noticed small amount of water on my casings. I had the ultra sonic humidifier on for 15 min every 2 hours, this may be too much. I have turned off the humidifier for now.

Do these casing look o.k. or should I go ahead and add another small casing layer of coco coir?

My concern is that with water on the casing layer itself it may begin to overlay.

Thanks in advance!!!!!! I know how annoying these constant noob questions can get.

How concerned should I be about water condensing on the myc?????

don't be concerned at all...I believe water on the casing layer helps to trigger pinning

I mist my casings up until first signs of primordia

O.k. thanks Walrus......

I was wondering because I have seen pics of casings in grow chambers that have a "fog" in them. The water has to be condensing on the casings/shroom/everything inside the chamber. But when I read some casings TEK's it says water/condensation on myc/shrooms is a very bad thing(overlay/shroomrot/etc...) So I thought I would post out here and see what the growers thought.

Thanks for the info, and please reply if you have somehting to add!!!!

I think you may have too high of humidity, from the looks of how foggy your fruiting chamber is. Condensation IME is not good for baby pins... Do you have an RH meter?

I have a similar setup, but I run fans when my humidifier runs, you dont need perlite or anything else with one of those.  I only run the humidifier on the lowest setting for 15 mins every 3 hours or so and 5 times a day it does it for 30 mins and the fans run for 15.  I never notice condensation forming on my cakes but it forms on the shelves and sides.  Casings will birth in 2-3 days they are looking nice

If you want to peek mine is in the grow log section.

That was a pic of just after setup. I was running the Ultra Sonic Humidifier full blast just to try and bring the humidity up fast. It barely fogs whenever I run it for 15min at the lowest setting. Yes, I've got a RH/TEMP meter. It's currently at 80% and 70 degrees.(It's an analog one for reptile tanks)

I was checking out old grow logs and I have seen quite a few pics of casing that look exactly like mine. Small amounts of condensation on casing and the myc seems to be growing in small little towers. So, I'm hoping it will be fine. I have dropped the increments of the humidifier from 15min every hour to 15min evey 2 hours. If this is not enough I will drop it more.

Thanks again for all the info. Any other comments welcome!
