I'm assuming it's game over for this shoebox, but I want some confirmation before I give it a Christian burial...

Just spun my shoebox around for the first time in a week and discovered this green/blue & white blotch. I seriously doubt it's mycelium bruising but before I officially declare it dead I wanted a second opinion.
I don't have any photos of it opened because it's near a couple other boxes and I don't want to open it inside if it definitely is contaminated.

EDIT: Alright this immediately became a stupid question after I saw the picture on my monitor as opposed to my phone. Shit's green AF yo. Sorry to bother y'all. I'll read it its last rights and bury it in the woods behind my house with a marked grave.

What tek did you follow? Is this MS or isolated? What do you think caused the contam?

Keep the patch semi shaded and don't let it dry out and you will probably get a few fruits. I have done it a few times. I just break off the moldy part and bury the rest.

This is an interesting idea I never thought of that. I was planning on breaking off the moldy part and discarding it in a different part of the woods before I bury the other block but I suppose I could give this a try. Edit: I read this wrong the first time, I realized you had suggested exactly what I said,

Shoebox tek using coir + verm. Grain inoculated was popcorn, as popcorn is the only thing I've had any luck with so far. WBS constantly either gets cobweb or trich for me.
If I had to guess the green mold came from a contaminated syringe, because I put a couple drops of the same syringe on one of my no-pour agar plates (very new to agar) and it also grew green mold. The other syringe of the same variety (Dancing Tiger) I got from that particular vendor also had contaminated some Uncle Ben's bags I knocked up. I also think my environment could have something to do with it, I live in an old house in the deep American south where mold is very common, so that would be my second guess but I've continued to have some success so that's why it's not at the top of my suspect list.

Have you tried oats? They seem to be very forgiving and the general consensus is that of you get mold or bacteria from an oat spawn, its almost always from not using proper sterile technique or over hydrating.

I sometimes prepare lots of grain a day ahead of time let it dry in the colander for a few hours then put it in the fridge overnight. It almost seems too dry, you can't get it too dry. If I have the time I vastly prefer to make the grain on the dry side.
Bods Oat Grain Prep Tek
I've read people getting too many burst grains using his tek but the solution is simple. Dont boil for as long.
I too live in the south where mold grows everywhere. I'll be attempting my first grow in a couple of months or so and because of that, I'm very paranoid. Trying to think of every variable I can and come up with a way to cut back on the probability of contamination. I live in a small old house with and we have a dog that sheds constantly. When we first moved into this house, there was a cluster of mushrooms growing off the floor in the corner by the shower.
If youre thinking about trying Uncle Ben's Tek, look at this.

Yeah oats were next on my list. There's a Tractor Supply near my house that has feed oats for $15/50lbs. It's too cheap NOT to try it at that price, plus I just used the last of my Costco bulk popcorn in my most recent inoculation.

I tossed it, but apparently not in time: this same infestation hit my 3 other tubs I had going, even one from a previous batch of spores. Anything in particular I should do before I begin spawning to bulk again? I've got more jars of grain that seem to be coming along just fine, I want to clean the hell out of my growing area before I spawn them to bulk. Is this infection identifiable in any way that is obvious to y'all?

Trich is hard to get rid of. Trich spores become airborne and get into literally everything. If you're being sterile and still seeing trich, you will probably have to do a full sanitization. It could be as simple as cleaning everything in the room or as difficult as cleaning everything in the house. Blankets, clothes, shoes, walls little nooks and cranies etc.

Quick thought I just had:
None of the infestation were on the top of my substrate, all were on the bottom/sides: would that mean the infestation had to have been from infected grain and not from spores spreading from tub to tub?
