Mushroom nausea
    #26885498 - 08/17/20 06:04 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys, new tripper here. I've tried mushrooms 4 times now and with my last trip the nausea completely killed the trip for me, it left me paralyzed for 2-3 hours and by that point my body was physically exhausted from vomiting so much. My girlfriend was pretty freaked out because of how sick it made me.

My last trip before, I had little to no nausea and had the best time of my life.

The other two trips all had nausea and vomiting but mostly better after purging. This last time however really freaked me out.

1st trip I just ate the shrooms dry/raw with nothing, fasting
2nd, 3rd and 4th trip I grinded the shrooms and made lemon tek, never exceeding 2.8g, first trip was 3.5g which I ate raw. I will say the 2.8g lemon tekked blew my mind and took me to an entirely different place, somewhere far away even from when I took the 2.8g.

Ginger was consumed as well as weed and I have fasted every time for at least 4-6 hours before consuming.

Any tips? I feel like I'm missing something because as of right now, this last trip ruined shrooms for me.

I have some friends and 1 family member who throw up almost every time if they eat it. So they only do tea(I prefer to eat it) try boiling some water in kettle then pour said water over whatever dose of crushed up mushrooms you want to take then let that steep for a while, filters then wa la, magic water you can put some quick koolaid into or whatever :thumbup"

That's a tough one, man. Some people don't really got nausea from them, others get it moderately but nothing too serious, and some get it really bad.

I would scale back the dosage for one, because the more intense the experience, often times the more intense the nausea can be.

Most of the time I'm fine but the come up can be a little sketchy for me, as I will feel some nausea coming on in waves. It's rare to where it will completely ruin a trip for me but it has happened before where basically I just had to lay down for the entire trip (which sucks).

Some will offer ways to minimize the nausea but all in all I've tried most methods and have felt various degrees of nausea from all of them at one point or another.

Oh, but definitely try to go into your next trip on a relatively empty stomach.

Making mushroom powder then melting some chocolate into it really helped some of my friends who gets nausea.
You can put mushrooms into a coffee grinder or blender to make a fine powder.

The three last times I tripped I used a coffee grinder to power the shrooms and I steeped it in a decent bit of fresh squeezed lemon juice/hot water (not boiling but close).

I steeped for 30-40 minutes, strained and then drank quickly.

The only time I didn't get nausea I drank the tea very slowly (over the course of an hour).

Every other time I've made tea/lemon tek, the nausea has been extremely high.

I'll try to take less (1-1.5g?) and see how it goes, I suppose. I've heard about using raw caocao as well as a potentiator and as well as maybe to reduce nausea?

I get nausea if I chomp them down unground, but grinding them into a powder, I get zero nausea so I wholeheartedly endorse this comment

I also want to mention that the dust from ground mushrooms is very irritating to my lungs, so you may want to be extra careful not to inhale any. There will be a lot of airborne dust if you use a spice grinder, when you take the lid off.

I noticed it did have some powder fly up when removing the lid, but I was careful to keep it away from me and I removed the lid very slowly. (Don't need spores in my lungs...)

It could very well be the intensity and the lemon tek causing my nausea, I'm still a shroom noob and trying to figure it out. I definitely do NOT want go what I went through again on friday thought, that shit was a nightmare.

I'll try melting some chocolate into the powder and try that route along with some ginger and maybe peppermint tea.

Yeah that sounded rough what you went through. Like prolonged, repeated vomiting? That's a pretty severe reaction considering the amount you took wasn't anything overly crazy.

I get severe nausea from all serotonergic psychedelics.  The cause is serotonin receptors in the gut.  Some people have what are often referred to as slutty receptors(they bind anything closely resembling their target molecule).  These receptors in the gut control peristalsis, or the rhythmic contraction of smooth muscle that moves food and drink through the stomach and intestines.  The issue with shrooms and other psychedelics is when they bind these receptors they cause arrhythmic contraction of the smooth muscle (think squirming guts feeling) and this generally leads to nausea.  One solution I've found to work 100% is to take Zofran(Ondansetron) about 30-45 mins before taking a psychedelic.  Zofran is an anti-emetic whose MOA is to blocade the serotonin receptors in stomach and gut.

I also get nauseous from mushrooms, but never to the point of puking

Same nausea I get from LSD and very similar to anxiety nausea

I think Ice9 is on point here

How does one just take ondansetron when it is a prescription medication? Seems like a great idea though-- better living through chemistry!

Very interesting. I've heard ginger provides a similar mechanism (blocking serotonin in the stomach) although I'm not sure how effective it is versus Zofran. I've taken ginger chews every time I tripped but it seemed to be only effective one time. The mechanism makes sense as to why it would cause extreme nausea, because I did not take any mushroom matter.

This is definitely an incredibly interesting point and I'll take a look into this if I decide to go ahead and trip again. I didn't even know I could feel that nauseous before. Next time I'll try that out.

I've heard some peanut butter in the stomach isn't a terrible idea as well, is there any truth to this? Do the fats help keep it down?

I have no clue how I'd go about to get Zofran, I imagine I can't just walk up to the doctor and say hey, I have stomach issues and need Zofran.

Yeah, I tend to get my Zofran from leftovers from people who dont finish their scripts.  Ginger does actually work in a similar fashion, but not strongly enough eliminaate the nausea, maybe reduce it a bit.  I have also hear (anecdotal) for ginger to work you must actually eat the ginger, whatever in it that helps does not come out in teas/tinctures.

Yes, this! Also look for the mushroom tea thread O.P., and welcome! I had nausea issues as well until I powdered them and made chocolates, now it's the only way besides tea for me. I use a cheap coffee grinder from walmart, 13 bucks.

I also read a while back that the fibrous texture of the dried mushrooms and how much work it takes for the stomach to tear it up plays a role in nausea.:mushroom2:

Its OTC in some countries.

Its like how a box of mebendazole intestinal parasite pills costs $1200 Rx in the USA and $4 OTC in Holland.

Having the world's best healthcare system comes at a price.

I've read quite a few people recommend making them into chocolates... wouldn't I have the same issue that I have before?

Why would chocolalte reduce the nausea? Does it inhibit serotonin in the gut or is it some other mechanism?

I definitely don't turn to chocolate when I'm feeling nauseous...
