Any of you guys ever find cubies in horse manure?

It says in the FAQ that cubensis grows in horse manure as well as cow manure,I was wondering if you guys ever find cubies in horse dung, and if so, how often? I was wondering this because, I live near many horse ranches, or farms or whatever, but the nearest cow field is a long way away. Is it a waste of time looking for shrooms in horse manure?

It's been done before but is highly uncommon. The onyl instance I've ever heard of cubensis being found in horse manure is when it's growing from a pile of stable shavings and manure... Not just the manure in a field.

Its they only way I find them, my pasture is nothing but horses but, cubes will pop up in the shavings and manure. Actually, I havent seen ANY shrooms growing directly from horse manure at least in my yard, except antrillium and very seldomly.

I think its so rare cuz the manure is in those little balls. If the manure is piled up by the barn from cleaning the barn out, that would be the best place. Just an idea.

Good question. I don't know the answer. Cultivation is one of those things I know next to nothing about.

Well, from my experience at this hunting forum, it seems like i remember several people from Texas saying that they hunt horse pastures and find Cubensis growing normally like in a cow pasture elsewhere.
I?ve never found Cubensis growing directly from horse manure before here in Florida, but i have in fact found them growing inside of a horse-stable from a mixture of Horse-sh*t and Stable shavings.
Here let me try to pull up a picture of those,
Those were found in Live Oak, Florida, August of last year.
But i seem to remember at least a few shroomers in Texas who claim to find Cubensis growing directly from Horse manure, inside of pasture they claim have zero cows what-so-ever and only horses.

Also, i've read in few Mushroom Identification manuals which treat Psilocybe cubensis and they mention horse manure as a habitat.
Lizard King might have also found Cubensis growing directly from horse manure (if my memory is correct?) but i do know he has posted some amazing photos of P. cubensis growing in stable shavings mixed with horse-dung, in Georgia, similar to the photo i posted above, but he found some really rycheous clusters of shrooms..

Oh and also, about a year ago i was given a few dozen dried shrooms to identify and they were in fact Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms and they were found growing directly from the horse manure of the horses at a circus in sarasota florida. -They were really nasty stinky cubes, but cubes none-the-less, growing from a pasture where the circus horses live..

Horse manure is usually broken down less than in a cows gut. Usually cow manure is used in gardening because of the reletive sterility in comparison to horse manure. Often contaminant seeds can germinate from horse manure.
I believe the preference of cubes to cow manure has to do with the overall texture of cow manure. The cow patties resist desication much better than horse manure.

Wood chips that they put down in the bottom of horse pin things. They shovel all the shavings out when the horses crap in there a lot. So stable shavings= woodchips and horse crap.
Mr. Mushrooms: LizardKind also found cubensis on stable shavings... and they were damn potent. I would know, he gave them to me :x
