fruiting question
    #26885144 - 08/17/20 03:31 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

So this tub look amazing, for the first time since I started I have no bacterial or mold growth on my jars (learning that sterile tek). Anyways this tub is 100% and has been put into fruiting for a day. This tub got really spikey during colonization which I haven't seen before and also don't see the knotting like I have with tubs previous. Strain before were golden teachers, these are penis Envy's. Two questions what are the spikes? And should I keep in colonization until I see knotting?

Those spikes are the mycelium poking through the substrate reaching for moisture in the air.

If it’s in proper fruiting conditions and receiving proper FAE is will likely start showing hyphal knots and pins in a few more days. Just be patient and make sure it has FAE.

Did you case this tub?

I have not cased any of my tubs, have looked into but haven't pulled that trigger. I do put wax paper on them during the beginning of fruiting.

Cubes don’t need cased that’s been proven so no worries I was just wondering because it looks like a cased sub to me.

It almost looks not fully colonized if it’s not a cased tub. I always wait for the sub to be fully white. That shouldn’t be a worry though because people have been putting their subs in fruiting conditions from the moment of spawning them. I’d just wait and see but I expect good things 👍

It’s fine, it’s totally colonized that’s just how rhizo looks when you use a top layer. Those fingers will roll back into knots.

PE really needs an actual casing or it’s probably going to be mostly blobs the first flush.

With PE I case with jiffy at 80-100% colonization and then let it sit another few days before fruiting it. You should read one of the threads about what to do differently with PE.

It can take a long time to fruit so it’s worth doing right, especially with how potent they are.

Colonization seemed to have completed! Are these the blobs? Is it too late to case? I just got the peat moss today

It’s starting. Usually it starts to form sort a shell over the casing that will turn yellowish brown, then blobs start up. You have a couple tiny ones there.

This was my first PE grow when I left one shoebox un cased. It was so bad I tried late casing part but it didn’t help.

I also had very little control of conditions then so that didn’t help things.

This bottom shoebox is more common type of blobbing. This was a clone that needed double the normal casing depth but I didn’t know yet.

If you do it NOW it should still help

Ok so I missed the window for casing this run. I was missing some of the ingredients so I decided to just let these go. I am not seeing much info on when to harvest the blobs. These 2 tubs are 5 days in to blobbing. What time frame am I looking at to harvest? Anything I should see to know they are ready?

Man that’s the worst kind of blobbing. All over and small enough to cover the surface but too small to harvest easily.

They’ll get soft when they’re done. If you’re lucky you’ll be able to run your hand across the top and roll them off.

The big ones you have are cool they’re like caps instead of blobs.

Harvest right as they start to get soft
