Hi folks
Had a search and a read of a load of posts but didn't find quite the right answer. I'm a noob, I have one large cake which is on it's first flush, there's a small crop of shrooms growing but now there pretty covered in what are presumably fungus gnats.
Can I still harvest the crop? And then between flushes is there any way of getting rid of them?
Thanks
Mark

Yeah all they do from my experience is over several weeks if left alone they will munch on that mycelium and breed like crazy, and your mycelium will be dead after that. I always got a couple flushes even after they appeared, but I also always killed as many as I could see if the substrate was still relatively young. They dont eat the mushrooms. Easy to kill just by your hands.

Your house is gonna be filled. I would recommend fruiting it outside to finish it up.
Then you may want to wait a few weeks before growing again to make sure you end the life cycle.

Gnats are a pain. I have not personally tested this, but people report having success with dunking their thing in - the oh so controversial - hydrogen peroxide. Might be worth a shot, it could kill the larvae, but you would have to kill every last one of the adults to solve the problem.
Searching for "hydrogen peroxide gnats" should yield plenty of results

Noob question but do you know if these little buggers are present worldwide? I am in New Zealand and I am guessing they (or some form of them) exist here, but I have never seen or heard of such and am curious if they are something I may encounter. Fore warned and all that. TIA
