Which songs do you use to test speakers/headphones?
    #26884040 - 08/16/20 10:03 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Especially for the bass  :dancer:

And what speakers/headphones do you use?

The best speaker in my house is a singular Google Home Max and Sony MDR-ZX770BN for headphones.

I run Paradigm monitor 7's and monitor 3's (rears/surround) on an Onkyo receiver.

For a proper test you need to use tone sweeps and white noise tests with an analyzer to set your EQ's to flatten out the inperfections of the speakers and the room.

If you just want something to push your speakers and hit a good mix of tones, Bass mekanik works well for it.

I'd recommend something along these lines if you are serious about  setting your audio up properly.

Tool or Kevin Gates. Tool is more dynamic of course and Kevin Gates would be more sustained bass notes.

Bohemian Rapsody is a common choice to quickly test quality at different ranges.

I use speakers mainly for home theater, so the fly in scene from Jurassic Park is my go-to.  One of the best scored scenes ever.  For surround effects, the original building lobby scene from the Matrix, and the pod race from Star Wars phantom menace.

Personally, I think its more important to have material that you are familiar with, and have heard a million times.  I've found that as you get more into "high end" gear, it sounds "different," but not necessarily "better" or "worse."

Headphones add a couple more dimensions as you need to consider their comfort and weight as well.

Years ago I made a w00ferpwn version of a club mix to get my computers subwoofer blaring obscenely.

Clicking the link downloads on desktop.

You only truly get the picture on a low bass capable soundsystem.

Its ideal to fry the interior of you car with if you have an epic car stereo.

Put the volume on low first to see how your sound stystem reacts to it.

Clicking the link dowloads the file :awesomenod:

Any of the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab remasters - usually Dire Straits' self titled, Steely Dan - Aja, or Muddy Waters - Folk Singer

Headphones are Beyerdynamic DT 770 paired with my PC and Sony XBA-N3 paired with a Fiio M11

The sound quality is nuts :feelsgoodman:
