Wait for the fruit to finish before harvesting... you can set the cake in a shallow dish of water overnight instead of a full dunk and just wait on them

I am not going to harvest until they are ready when the veil is broken or pretty close to it. But those pins arenβt really doing anything not sure if they are aborts or not

May have a few aborts, but the majority still look viable... give them a day or 2 to make the call: wont miss out on much ... if they grow great, if bot, pick them anyways... I'd wait

I am merely asking out of curiosity: Why would someone not just wait for the veil to separate and them to be finished growing and harvest them, and then dunk for the flush? Is there any reason or any benefit to putting them in water before harvesting the current flush? I'd always thought it would be best to dunk after harvesting but I have only been at it a few months so my experience is limited. I have done cakes and a couple of lil monotubs and I enjoyed doing the small bulk grows more than the cakes so I am mainly just curious. I am working on building some bigger tubs and likely won't do cakes any time soon anyway. But I always figured from what I know that you only dunk after harvesting and not during.

Hes asking about the tiny fruit present... they wont finish before the cake needs added moisture... if they're submerged for too long they can abort, so I suggested leaving them and letting the cake soak water from the bottom in a shallow dish instead of completely submerging it
I wasnt suggesting to dunk it now, after harvesting the mature fruit, before the immature fruit mature... just to be clear if the cake is dry now, it may be beneficial to soak it in a shallow dish now... mushrooms are 90% water, and it serves to say, if water is limited, so shall fruit size be: nothing wrong with bottom watering cakes or bulk substrates during a flush if needed
If you run into that often, might consider increasing initial hydration to compensate, and eliminate the need for a more 'set and forget ' experience

ah OK I understand now, thanks for clarifying. When I was between flushes I just waited for almost all of them to be done. I harvested like 2 prematurely so that I could dunk, but I didn't mind since it was so few. By then most of the pins remaining were aborts and not new ones anyway so I wasn't too worried about them. I figured if a bunch are still growing then it isn't time for another flush but I can see how doing it your way gives the best of both worlds.

You can bottom water without aborting pins... just dont want the pins enveloped in water: they need oxygen, same as you

So I filled a jar lid with water and set the cake in it How long should I leave it in the water? Should I still dunk the cake if this doesnβt work out?

Leave it overnight and see if it soaks it all up... if it does, add more, if not, dump it... it'll workout, get all that negative energy off of it, it's no good for either of you ... dunk it once they smaller fruit mature
