Economics is a neat answer to provisioning our lifestyle, and need is the impulse towards filling the positions in salt mines, coal mines and sweat shops for example.
Perhaps science in it's predilection towards a better life can be credited for the gradual replacement of human labor by machine freeing a greater number of us from drudgery.
Vegetarians in a spiritual sense can release souls from necessary supporting roles in dairy and meat, but our maintenance requirements will continue to funnel labor into the production of ore and chemicals to furnish those who don't know how lucky they are with clothing, transportation and salt.
Economic necessity then, and perhaps price gouging as an impetus towards the adoption of a role, is the bandaid on our conscience when filling supporting roles for our maintenance.
An increasing number of our supportive roles become supplanted by computerized machines leaving fewer necessary overseeing "slave-masters" and a greater number free to enjoy themselves without recourse to drudgery, but, by whatever polite terms we may use, the necessity of slaves in servitude roles and the channeling of souls into those roles by seeming chance or by appealing to their moral conscience remains.
What advice would you give a "Free-Soul" in regards to maintaining their freedom from servitude and drudgery?
I'll start: "Don't marry a poor man with many children"

keep how efficient you are private so that sharing can be deliberate and people don't always expect you to do extra work because you are the one who does it better than everyone else.
that is fine in a limited way on a resume and in your profession, but private life not so much.
finally get good at something you do not mind being chained to.
I have picked sweeping, and emptying the dishwasher.
also learn how to say you are on a needed rest break.

. Depends on whether you think externals are important.
"The story of three bricklayers is a multi-faceted parable with many different variations, but is rooted in an authentic story. After the great fire of 1666 that leveled London, the world’s most famous architect, Christopher Wren, was commissioned to rebuild St Paul’s Cathedral.
One day in 1671, Christopher Wren observed three bricklayers on a scaffold, one crouched, one half-standing and one standing tall, working very hard and fast. . To the first bricklayer, Christopher Wren asked the question, “What are you doing?” to which the bricklayer replied, “I’m a bricklayer. I’m working hard laying bricks to feed my family.” . The second bricklayer, responded, “I’m a builder. I’m building a wall.” . But the third brick layer, the most productive of the three and the future leader of the group, when asked the question, “What are you doing?” replied with a gleam in his eye, “I’m a cathedral builder. I’m building a great cathedral to The Almighty.” "
. So people into what is currently translated as "mindfulness" will tend to give a different answer, than conventional ones.

Yeah what is a "free soul" here, as in an internally free spirit (joy, acceptance, tolerance etc.) or externally (fuck the man/corporations etc.)?
I get an external sense from OP. In which case do what must be done at all costs even if it means making unsavory sacrifices.
