Scorched birdseed

a friend soaked wbs for 6 hours then rinsed and drained, put into jars and put lid on(no filter, just the tight sealed lids) and then waited about 2 days before pressure cooking(he drilled holes and added polyfil right before pcing). PC'd for 70 minutes and then the bottom of the birdseed in the jars were scorched. There was no water in the PC after the 70 minutes of PCing, we put the usual amount in so i dont see how this time the PC used all the water up. he shook them anyways while still hot because your supposed to so now the scorched parts are scattered throughout the entire jars. why did the birdseed scorch?

and are the jars still going to be ok to inoculate with spores? or will they likely contam? some is caked to the bottom as well that cant be knocked loose(bout a half inch worth)

be patient with ur grains soak for 24 hrs drain for three.make sure ur pc has about 1 1/2 inches of water in the bottom. redo the jars i wouldn't trust them.check ur valves and ur seal cause u might be letting out too much steam.

yeah man, its the pc, we just tried some more and the mother fucker just leaks like hell. what can i do about it? buy a new seal? does the rubber seal just wear down after awhile and become thinner or what?
