A few Questions - fuzz? rot? too wet?
    #26883386 - 08/16/20 12:20 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

I’m growing some uncut penis envy for the first time on rice flour cakes in a shotgun chamber.  My chamber has a mister that goes on ever hour for a few minutes.  The humidity in there is usually between 92-97%.

I’ve got three issues I’m hoping to get some knowledgeable views on.

First, and I think least, I notice a lot of fuzz on the base of my Penis Envy shrooms.  See the two FUZZ pics below.  Can I assume this is nothing to worry about?

Second, some of the Penis Envy cap’s seem to grow (or quickly turn) black.  This IS NOT due to them being covered with spores.  It’s just their color and the ones that do this seem to be stunted.  See the black cap in the bottom pic below.  Are these still OK to eat or are they somehow rotted/compromised?

Third, I seem to have a lot of trouble with second flushes.  I’m taking out the cakes after the first flush, letting them dry out for a day, and then dunking them for 12-24 hours.  I put the cakes back into the chamber and my second flushes have been haphazard or non-existent.  I can’t figure out what’s going on.  This by the way is happening with both the Penis Envy cakes and my Ecuador cakes (I have both strains in my FC).

is it possible for my FC to be too wet?  As I say, it’s usually around 95% or higher in there.  I’m wondering if this is causing all or some of my issues above.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Thanks.

Anyone?  These can't be that hard (or maybe they're so blatantly ignorant no one wants to bother?).  Anyway, asking again, if ya'll have any thoughts.  Thanks.

The fuzz looks alright, it’s staying at the bottom which happens sometimes.

That black cap one aborted. I think somethings off with the conditions but cakes aren’t my thing. Too wet I’d guess judging by the mushrooms.

I’d try and clone that big one though it looks good.

It's just mycelium on the fruit... it CAN  indicate insufficient air exchange, or excessive/obsessive misting (most likely the case here) bit also can be genetic... thus degree is not concerning

The grey on the cake in the second picture however, does concern me... it's out of focus but looks like penicillium mold... could POSSIBLY be bruising, but the morphology appears to be different all together

Thanks to you both, greatly appreciated.  Sorry to be so impatient.
