Hi folks, recently I have had a number of petri dishes show contam, and also a number of jars go to waste.
I am pretty confident about my pour tehnique since the plates that remain unused usually show no contam. I wrap them in kitchen foil inside the sab. I'm wondering if I do something wrong by manipulating them often to check progress, or perhaps when I take multiple samples from a plate and then transfer one or two big sections to a grain master. I wonder if contams get inside the plate and then instantly transfer away by hiding on top of the myc.
Just wanted your tips and tricks to keep agar dishes contam free after the fact, perhaps I can learn something useful
Thanks for your wisdom as always.

I take a saran wrap cylinder abd cut it in about 1.25 inches section and then wrap it around the plates I dropped spores/made a transfert to. Some use parafilm.
Virgin poured plates they just sit stacked in their original sleeve

Here are some helpful short videos on agar.
The first one shows how to wrap plates, but there are other videos there also that show other agar techniques.

I use clean ziplock sandwich baggies, with two petris per bag. Its easier than wrapping, and if they are a bit too wet, you can leave them slightly unzipped and they will slowly dry.
I've only had one plate contam out of about 150 I've done that way, and I let most of them sit for at least a week before use.

il usually pour 40 at a time and leave them in the sab to cool overnight then il saran them also like stated above and place in stacks of 10 in a ziplock freezer bag and store them in a tote until il i use them. ive even kept and used plates up to 3 months old with no issues although i dont reccomend that but if stored properly in a airtight cool dark place they will keep good for quite a while. i usually only end up witj about 10-12 plates i save for cloning needs is all. that way if i have something come up i wanna clone i dont have to pour just for that
