Thick stems, skinny stems
    #2688277 - 05/16/04 09:07 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Allright, this is a little strange: I got really thick stems off a harvest that was NEVER fanned, and really skinny stems off a harvest that was fanned about 3 times a day. Same lighting conditions. Pretty dissapointing, really: the thick ones weighed a couple of grams each dried, whereas the skinny ones are real featherweights.

I don't know why I want thick stems. Smaller shrooms are more potent. But big shrooms are just...I don't know, somehow more appealing. Like when a shroom is so big you feel you should name it something like "El Capitan" or "Shrom Jeremy".

Interesting. I would have figured the opposite would happen. Stem elongation occurs with elevated CO2 levels. Perhaps you were fanning your humidity away.

Where did you get that idea?

i too have read that smaller shrooms are more potent. I've read it in many places, but can't remember where, at the moment. I know it's in one of the grow guides though.

Perhaps you are confusing this with aborts and "right before the veil breaks" mushrooms. I have never read anything about smaller mushrooms are more potent. I only have read aborts and mushrooms that have not torn their veil are more potent (by weight) than mature sporulating ones. But I still have yet to see proof of this (chemical analysis).

Which grow guide? Where? If so then it must be true. I am going to start cloning small mushrooms instead of the nice, large specimens...

its all through the mmgg and other teks...  The smaller ones are more potent gram for gram.  Of course we would all rather have the big ones   Those little ones that I get off cakes (as compared to casings) only dry to like .2, whereas a big one dries to at least a gram lol.

Definitely confusing them with aborts...

Maybe the really skinny ones were too dry? The short/fat thing can be genetic. After a flush or two they tend to grow bigger. JMO.

I had a first flush gt, very big ones for being a first flush.
The reazon. They grow at about 5 ?C and not the normal 18 or 20.
It took them about 3 weeks to fruit but they did and did very well.
The second flush was at 16 ?C and the were a lor thinner.
So I think that the temp does matter a lot.
Anyway now I'm trying with changing temp to gat bigger ones.
At night 5?C and during the day about 15?C.
We will see.
