There are a number of ways. Adding the proper amount of 155 degree water to a barrel of sub, then mixing with a paddle on a drill, then place the lid on the drum. After an hour, mix again and dump out to cool. Also, a large dehydrator works with bags without filters. You can also build as big of a steamer as you want with a basket inside to hold bags.

55 gal drum, 120v water heater element, 4 blocks and some grill grates...
Considered cold pasteurization?

Ok thanks guys. Iโm growing B+ on agar and pes Hawaiian. U think I should lower the grams per 500ml if the premix. And do 15-20grams per vs 25grams. Maybe I also poured it while it was too hot. I donโt know. My first time. Just seemed really difficult to do in a SAB. FIre the syringe, fire the innoc loop repeat and rinse. Do u guys go back and forth for each Petri dish or do u drop spores in all ur plates and then go back and spread out the spores via loop. Or just do a drop dead center and leave it be.

You shouldnโt tilt the plate once you put spores on it (unless youโre tilting the initial drop to spread it out ) Agar is supposed to be stiff to the point that things sit on top of it instead of going into it.
You can make softer agar for specific things but thereโs probably nothing wrong with your current batch you just donโt wanna keep handling the plates until you have myc growing and need to xfer.

Conversely, I use soft agar for everything except shipping plates... 8g/L agar powder and 16g/L LME... it's an adjustment working with, but I prefer it

I could do this but I would get the heating element probably. Just so I could flip a switch and leave it. The steamer idea sounds costly.

I'll probably end up with sumthin like this. Also no I haven't heard of cold pasturing. A plastic 55 gallon drum should work fine for pasturization temps I'm assuming. And you use the grill grates for holding the bags of substrate brought up to feild capacity. Or could you also just dump it in with a certain amount of water or would that mess up the heating element.

I do a 5gallon pot on a portable induction stove set to 160f it can fit 4 3lb mycobags full of sub I have a metal rope thermometer with temp setting and when center gets to 165 I turn it down to 140 and it stays at 165 for a couple hours till I turn it off and let it cool.

shouldnt be a bacterial issue, ive checked and checked and they where all done under a flow hood and its the third transfer, ive also put a previous plate into jars and they colonized fine without contamination so who knows maybe it is bacterial maybe itll be amazing genetics lol pretty sure bye the colonization in the jars shes gunna be mean genetics lol

I would think a heating element would burn out surrounded by substrate?

I sterilize in mine, you'll have to put control on it to maintain lower pasteurization temps... cold pasteurization is done with an overnight pickling lime soak: 30g per 5gallon bucket of water and wring it out to field capacity... it works great for oyster on straw, I dont imagine it much different for anything else, unless its particularly sensitive to ph: but generally only prevents germination, NOT colonization
The element is submerged in water at all times, the 4 cinder blocks are sat on their end and a grate is used to stack the bags of grain/substrate out of the water... the element is at 3", and the water is at 9": no refill mechanism needed
Bacteria can piggyback, if it's with the culture, itll stay with the culture... in the proper dynamic, bacteria will cause fast colonization, and even fast aggressive fruiting... its not a guarantee, but 5 days is fast and the look is fairly indicative of an underlying infection IMO/E... it may fruit, but I'd expect it to sour near or just after harvest... it may be kill genetics, but I dont like the morphology of any of them... all from the same original culture? Maybe it was in the parent: it happens... look for the halo, consider Josex' poke method

The more uniform ones look great to me, lets see it on grain

ya they all from same liquid live culture and i havent seen a halon in any of the plates and i just went and checked cuz you had me all worried about them i stored away a plate and took pictures even after being stored for awhile its nice. this is it i just took under a light not the best picture but no halo or rings i can see........brooo why ya gotta get my anxiety flowin lmao kidding, i appreciate the insight.

this is a tote i had as a "tester" tote that came from these same plates and it colonized this much in 6 days no signs of contamination yet.

I DO see a halo: just behind the leading edge in the nonuniform section of the circle... there are 2 very small tips just past the haze: its there... try grabbing just the tip... you can see the line continues around to the left underneath the culture... liquid cultures are especially susceptible to bacteria, vendor or bot (remove vendor name from post and reread site rules)... none of this is to say it wont fruit, nor a testament of some percieved lack in skill... it is only what it is, and it's got something riding imo
The speed CAN be a symptom, so its not a strong arguement against infection... it may give a stellar flush... but the plate shown is absolutely bacterial imho

I had a mazapetek culture that look same way and when I spawned the myc did like your "tester" tub is doing. Like the myc is reaching for air or like it's to wet substrate, or like mine had severe bacteria issues making the myc act like that. Mine mazapetek had crazy blobs that grew in along with fruits. So it will probably fruit but could be disappointing. Good luck

Doesnt look horrible, my opinion stands: the last plate only confirms my suspicion... I think it's totally feasible to get away from it with a well timed and very small transfer from the leading wdge... who knows, maybe the relationship between the 2 organisms will play to your benefit for fast colonizing, heavy first flushes

one second ill grab a picture of the other tote its colonizing a bit different. ive also got to take a new transfer tonight so......
where would you guys suggest on that plate anywhere along the leading edge, maybe further side that is away from that non uniform section?
these are two pictures of the plates im taking transfers from.

this is the other test tote same genetics, colonizing different but the other tote i showed before was over field capacity and a tad on the damp side. this tote is bigger and less damp. is not colonized like the other one because its alomost twice the size.
