Are my Grain jars ready? 🧙‍♂️❤️🍄
    #26882239 - 08/15/20 07:16 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hello my fellow Shroomerians 😜

This is my first time with grain after my partially successful PF Tek grow, so I'm a noob 😅. I kinda got carried away with jars but my sterile technique I think is better this time.

Would anyone be kind enough to let me know if these are ready or should I let them sit a while longer?
Also if you see anything funky please let me know.

These are WBS some with cracked corn, and they are the PR and TC varieties.
One picture is G2G and the other is MS.

Thank you 🧙‍♂️❤️🍄

You will not see any uncolonized bits when they are ready.

Ok, got ya. I'm just impatient, it being my first real grow 😅 Thank you

I'll do some more reading and watch RR's vids in the meanwhile 😁

Sometimes It's not easy to tell the condition of someones jars of grain by pics.

So you as a grower and you have the jars right there in front of you.
Take a good look...

Is your grain slimmed to the side of your jars...(a sign of bacteria)

It won't take long to be able to look at your jars and know something not right.

People that are just starting out seem to not prep the grain correctly as in over boil or not dry their grain properly before going into the jars.

The smell test won't lie to you. bacteria in your grain Is a dead give away of contamination.

I always smell the jars before the spawn goes to the substrate.
Just a habit and I love the smell of mycelium.

One bad habit beginners have Is they noc. up grain jars with spores.
You should always make 3 to five transfers on agar to assure clean culture free of contaminates, also to thin down the sub strains to where you can visually see sector in your cultures.

RR is great, but a LOT of his information is outdated... you'd fair better sticking to active threads... also, patience is a requirement for mushroom cultivation, but I can sympathize with "my first" anxiety lol... it gets easier with time, especially if you stage a few projects behind each other

Thank you so much, Micelio!

Very useful info, everything does seem fine (no slime). Although I did use MS and the G2G without really sectoring.

I do have some agar ready and poured and a have begun isolating genetics by selecting nice looking rizomorphic mycelium. I am on my first transfer so I will do maybe 2 more the inoculate my rye berries I just ordered 😁.

I love this hobby so much ❤️🍄

I just hope the rizo mycelium fruits well, I was thinking of using a clone but maybe the MS to agar is better, IDK?

RR's grain tek is the tits tho.  You don't gotta soak for a whole 24hrs like he does, but that aside, it's a classic that never fails

Lol yeah that "first" anxiety really bites, especially in between grows with nothing on hand 🤷🏻‍♂️

Soon I will have all that I could want... Just patience as you say, I guess I'm growing along with my fungi 😅

I'm working on isolating on agar now so I should have plenty to keep busy 😁

Thank you for all your support ✌🏼

The correct thing to do is both.  And take a bunch of clones while you're at it- the nice looking ones that come in clusters preferably.  Grow em all out and see which ones are your winners.

Oooh good idea, I have some other varieties I haven't used yet so I will start on agar with those (GT&UPE) and the current ones I have inoculated (PR, EQ, & TC) I will do clones then go from there.

That should keep me busy for a while 😁

You'll want to have a good session with each strain you grow to determine potency of course.  Sometimes you end up with a great grower that just packs no punch in the trip department.

Interesting, whoah so many variables 😅.

Juggling all the varieties and strains of those varieties seems so daunting lol maybe I should just stick to one at a time. But where the fun in that, right lol

Nah, don't be daunted- growing is fun!  And if you're going to be growing anyway you might as well test out a bunch of different strains while you're at it.
