I put one of mine in the fridge for a few days with no changes but yours looks much better, I had inch deep myc.
Half spawn is looking good so far

I’m getting some pretty fat ones in this old sweater box. There’s some on the sides that look crazy.

Do these develop super slow for you guys? The little pin cluster in the back is like a week old.

Well the sweater box ones took off overnight, doubled in size.
The manure is starting to fuzz up, the myc is way fluffier this time though.

I found a chubster pin too, could be interesting to clone depending how it turns out.

Were there ever any results on the natalensis? Is it a different species?

Hell yeah they are, especially that bottom left one.
I finally got some mfing decent mushrooms

This thing was spawned on 6/15. If slow growers are potent these are gonna be mind melters.
I think these may be pretty sensitive to light, this is the first time I’ve gotten some growing vertically and also the first time I put a lot of extra light on them.

Grew mine from the spores I received, looks nice and kind of like it - elongated and with a half pale cap / wide pale margin... however it has an annulus / veil.
Strange... I'll be looking for the properly veilless natalensis and waiting for the DNA analysis, if natalensis does come back as a unique species I'm inclined to get mine tested too.

I screwed up... but not too bad. I had my ultrasonic humidifier shut down on me in my Martha and it got too dry in there and the surface of my Natalensis tub dried and bruised blue. However, once I got the RH up in there it started pinning pretty good. I don’t think it will be a canopy like last time but it’s looking pretty good:

Lol so many gnarly looking grows here.
So these newer fruits have normal gills, super weird. I finally got a handful of caps printing for the first time.

My half spawn tub is looking amazing, zero overlay with a bunch of knots starting.
The same culture here at normal ratio on manure is looking ok so far, some of the myc is super feathery I’ve never seen it before.

Well I dont know if it means anything but I have a few pins popping up on the Natal/Melmac tub on day 20. Darker caps than usual for Natal. I'll take a pic in another day or two.

I suppose if you get a convincing cross that would be an indication that Natalensis is a cube. I’m pretty sure that cross species hybrids are exceptionally rare if not impossible.

Yeah it’s been a minute, well prob find out through grims cross attempt first.
Just pulled off this cluster

I’ve seen in pics and people mentioning that they tend to keep going past veil break like the one on the left here, when this happens do they drop spores when the veil goes or not until they’re done growing??
I’ve got two more normal looking ones that are shorter and tore the veil and dropped spores but I left them on to see if they get taller.

I've seen spores collecting inside the veil before it broke and also no drop till the cap opened. Seems random.

lol ok cool that’s kinda what I noticed and why I asked. I’ve been checking the gill attachment on each one and that seems random also. Some look like normal cube and some have varying levels of attachment down the stipe.

I've got a feeling this is just a cube that underwent different evolution or varietized itself due to locale. Especially if that cross is actually a cross and not just melmac. I only say that because everyone here is getting partial veil remnants or odd phenotypes. All of my spore prints that got sent out are from fruits with those distinct characteristics we keep talking about. So either theres 2 species and its a mislabel or were all giving it the wrong parameters and its growing oddly. The latter seems more plausible. Kind of like PE, ya know? There's a certain way to do it thats different from oth cubes, and if you do it wrong you get blobs. Were doing natalensis like cubes, and getting unheard of overlay, weird gill attachment, insane potency, sometimes green bruising, veil remnant, etc. make sense?

Yeah especially since it seems to be uncommon, it’s not super domesticated and homogenized like most cubes around.
Anybody willing to experiment should try half the normal spawn, it could be any number of variables but I’m getting really good results with mine. Zero overlay, minimal surface colonization and lots of knots starting in a normal timeframe. Spawn from the same jar at normal ratio is overlaying but not super bad yet. It’s a few days behind the half spawn tub so we’ll see if it knots soon too.

Do woodlovers grow on coir? Maybe it is a different species that can consume coir better, rather than the coir being mostly a source of water? Combined with the contaminant resistance it could be a Woodlover. I would play around with manure but I don't want to and other people here already have lol
