Cooling spawn bags
    #26881816 - 08/15/20 02:43 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hello everyone! Have been on here for weeks and just made an account. I am doing ny first grain spawn bags (rye) in a pc, using unsealed filter bags. I could seal if I need to, however. Just a quick question about cooling them without getting too much condensation.. Can i remove the hot bags and store in another hot container to cool slowly? Heat seal right away? I only have one small pc and many bags to do so would like to keep it going.  Any suggestions?

Also how much condensation is too much? I did a couple bags yesterday are removed the immediately and sealed, here they are

I'm thinking it's fine to do at room temp. The heat would create positive pressure pushing from inside out. How are you folding your bags?

I don't preseal either. The way I fold them makes it so the plastic above the filter seals itself closed. When it's done that way leaving it in the PC overnight gives a nice vacuum sealed finish but you can remove them immediately too.

With or without tyvek sleeve? I'm pretty sure either way you don't need to seal it further than what it did in the PC.

Without tyvek. I did another run with presealing the bags, seems to work fine too. That way i dont risk contamination. Only thing im worried about is condensation, after a few hours it seems to dry out though.

The normal accordian method seals the bags during the PC cycle making additional sealing unnecessary.

If it's working for you it's working.

Thats a good point! Although I think id prefer a permanent seal so it doesnt open up upon moving the bags around. Thanks for the insight!

Because the polypropylene (PP) bags have a melting point at 160 to 170 °C depending on the quality.

Can't wait to see some canopies!

That's awesome you got the presealed bags to work too. Mine always popped 😂

If bags are popping its because your sterilizer is losing pressure too fast during cool down.

Jars fool!  Honestly plastic leeching doesn't matter with myc.  I bet if you go to las vegas there is a glass bag piece of art somewhere.  Heck they have glass umbrellas in one of the casinos

Not shit :facepalm3:

If you're so sure it doesn't affect the myc, then why be all about the glass?

Honestly I have no life and at the time of writing such a post I was thinking of drinking water bottles.  You see what happens when I try to think?
