Better viewing window on SAB?

I was thinking about making a square cut in my SAB and putting a clear glass or plastic on it for a better viewing experience when trying to work in my SAB.
Agar is hard to see through it and I use pastyplates so its extra eye work.
Would plexiglass be a good choice for this? I intend to put it between the arm holes but higher up. And what would be a good way to make sure its sealed?

Plexiglas would make sense. Anything with increased visability that isn't breakable would be good. As for adhesive I would use caulking and/or ductape. Other members might have better ideas, but those are my thoughts. Good luck and post the complete project!

I figured it would probably be better than using glass since its tough and hard to break lol. And I'd rather not use duct tape as that would look a little funky but calk might work. I was thinking maybe silicon but I dont know if that would hold it without falling off before drying.

Plexiglass should be fine. Any kind of superglue or hot glue would work fast.. might want to scuff up around the edges on both the plexiglass and tub where the glue is going to be to make it stick better and then use silicone to finish the seal between the plexiglass and tub

Plexiglass works great and can be easily affixed with a number of adhesives you can get at any Walmart that say "for plastic". That said, even with a really cloudy looking clear tote, viewing difficulties can be completely solved by a bright ass light. Brighter the better. You'd be astounded how much difference it makes. Also without a Dremel (which I think everyone should own for a multitude of reasons) it's a real bitch to cut a clean straight line in a tub. What are you cutting with-just curious.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen Sorry was a little late replying. Good to know my idea of plexiglass would be worthwhile. I have some gorilla glue and I can go buy some clear silicone so it won't look to funky.
And I will have to try that alaska, never thought about shining a light behind it. Will a flashlight work? Or I have a 6500k bulb with a reflector but that might be a little big lol.
And I don't have a dremel I was going to heat up a knife with a torch and try to go slow with the cut but I suppose I should look into since everyone should have one! Besides a dremel is there a better way I could go about a decent cut? The hot knife worked well for making arm holes in SAB but those didn't have to be super precise.

You might be able to pull it off fine with a knife. Same principle as making a non-fucked-over SGFC: slow. Do it when you have plenty of time to chill and take all the time you need. Goes a long way messing with a hot knife and temperamental plastic. Use the brightest light you can reasonably use and it's like... (pardon the light pun) night and day. I use a dual 24" florescent (5000k I believe?). I could do surgery in there. I like gorilla glue btw. They make a fine product line IMO. Just ask the interior of my car!

I think I might try the knife method but like you said, slow and methodical. Don't want to fuck up my perfectly good SAB I'll make sure I use my handy dandy super sharp plastic melter knife lol.
And so you should put that supernova light behind it? or on top of it? OR to one side? Puns are always welcome by the way.
Well looks like gorilla glue and silicon to finish will be the way I go. Can't beat a good recommendation from a car with experience

best way to cut those hole imo is a big hole saw in reverse (melt dont cut, or it can fracture)
I built a pretty nice sab into a closet out of plexi and wood before i built my fh. Ofc a flow hood is the best visibility
I built a big hinged lid for the sab too, to make bags easier. I think theres some pics in the flowhood build guide linked in my sig

Ahh C10, I loved your agar tips and tricks which consequently led to me reading your flow hood guide. You got some great reads man appreciate the work.
The holes I made came out pretty darn good considering hot knife'd it. I just used the hot side of the knife to smooth out the circle if it left any bumps and it's not to shabby. I'm sure the hole saw would work better if I had one.
I like your SAB build it looks very efficient though for now I just intend to modify the 108qt tub I have due to lack of work space in the room. Eventually i'll make one entirely out of plexiglass and wood similar to yours.
But yeah, whenever I get extra money I will probably just dump the SAB and build myself a flowhood following your guide.
