Jars to plastic take away containers?

Hello there!
I have had a few monotub failures recently which is quite dispiriting. There are still a couple of jars left so I was planning on finding a way of transferring them putting to small plastic takeaway containers so I can monitor them and have less of a loss if it all goes wrong.
Can anyone please recommend a tek or give some advice on how to go about this please?
The jars are rye, would just vermiculite do as a substrate to bulk out into the containers or would more rye be better (or a mix)?
I imagine I would do the transfer in the SAB?
What would I do afterwards? Would I need to get some bags with tyvek on for them to fruit once the whole substrate is colonised?
Any advice very gratefully received. I'm not aiming to sell these as grow kits! Just to get back to growing some fruits and enjoying the hobby again.

verm alone doesn't make for a good substrate, but you could case your colonized grain jars with it after hydrating it. I've done it to bacterial jars and you can get some fruits doing it that way.
You don't have to spawn colonized grain inside a sab. If it's healthy enough it will do fine in open air while you mix it with bulk sub material.
Can you post pictures of your jars? that will give some idea of whether or not you should even bother with them. how exactly did you generate your spawn?

Have I understood correctly? You have some rye that's colonised/colonising and you want to grow them in something smaller than a monotub?
If so:
Make a shoebox. Mix the rye with pasturised coir. Check out one of the many shoebox teks. If the rye is fully colonised and the coir is pasturised then you don't need to worry about being clean.

I think he's talking smaller than a shoebox. Also wondering how the meal prep sized containers would work. Something I'd like to experiment with in the future.

That make sense.
You can really follow the shoebox approach to any container in my eyes. I suppose different containers come with different challenges in regards to maintaining proper fruiting conditions.
Basically: mix spawn to sub, put sub in container. I had two spare PF jars and mixed them both 1:1 with CVG, one into a fishbowl and one into a 5L water jug that I cut the middle out of. The fishbowl needed a bit of baby sitting to keep the surface good but the bottle just sat in the corner of my room and did it's own thing.
Both fruited pretty well imo.

OP could easily mix the rye with coir and fruit out of a take away tub. Just throw a shopping bag over the top ala Bod's shoebox tek.

Nope, but I also plan on doing that one, too! Hah. I (and im assuming OP) am talking about the black take-out containers with the clear top often sold in supermarkets.
Very similar to a 6qt shoebox (just way smaller) and I'm sure the same principles would apply.

I'm doing this right now:

They're SAT's in some plant seedling trays I had sitting around that are maybe 8" x 6" or so.
The container size doesn't matter, so long as the proper conditions are met.

Oh word, totally! No reason it shouldn't work. When pins get too tall you can always do the Bod shopping back method like coversall suggested. Those plastic rotisserie chicken containers from the supermarket would be great I'd guess. Gives you plenty of vertical.

Thanks for all the advice.
Quick question I can't work out from reading shoebox threads.
Do you put the shopping bag over the box with the lid on or off? It seems that some people have the lid on and this is enough for enough air to get in. Is it best to have the lid on AND in a bag with holes in? I imagine this is with boxes that don't have clips to hold the lid on!?

The bag is used instead of a dubtub. A dubtub is when you sit an empty tub on top of the growing one to give the mushrooms more space. Like this:
(photo credit, some youtube video that an image search bought up)
It has been argued that dubtubbing is a waste of a tub because just putting a bag over the open box does the same job and gives you an extra tub to grow in.
But many people just keep the lid on. There are numerous ways to set up the lids to maintain FAE and humidity and it's simple enough to try out different set ups to find which suits your conditions best.

If you've got tubs with really loose fitting lids then you can even just leave the lids on normally and there will be enough FAE. You can remove the blue seal from the tubs I use so if the lids are places loosely on top there's enough FAE.
But to recap:
Quote:

Lid off.

Yes.

No.

As you can see the boxes I use have the clips, I just dont use them, apart from as little props to hold the lid up.

What would be the point of the bag. Just think about it for a second lol
